Cyprus, pedestrians sidewalk or cars parking?

Postby alessandromorelli » Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:28 pm

In a civilized coutry, where the police really knows the meaning of laws respect, cars are removed from pedestrian sidewalks....
here, having to suppose the police its too busy while watching football matches, it seems everything its working on the wrong side.
Called, mailed, may times to police department, they always answered, when they did...., "sorry, we do not have time to check all the cars standing on pedestrian sidewalks..."
in a civilized country, but not here, police use to apply fines...money that will go on municypality wallet.......Here seems, they do not need at all these money.
funny, thinking how bad maintened are the roads, the public spaces......
In a civilized country...but not in cyprus.....European country......unfortunately

I'm afraid I have to agree with you, the Parking is terrible!, the lack of cameras terrible!, the lack of big brother attitude!is terrible!.
It's like a breath of fresh air!!!
Cyprus has always been like this & I for one hope it doesn't change.

just wait till you try pushing a baby buggy around,,, then you will curse the C*nts who park on the pavement:

Favourite trick in a raod where the footpath was obstructed ?

Walk along slowly holding up the traffic behind and waving politely at thecars behind as they hoot, stopping to gesticulate at the cars making it necassary to walk in the Road., on the principle of reciprocity.: cars block me on the pavement, I block cars on the road - even better with a wide double-buggy!!

there is not sufficient parking. The roads are too narrow. Service lanes are non existent.
The road network has not been upgraded properly, hundreds of cars are being added to the streets annually but not enough new roads, parking spaces and alternative routes are being added to compensate this increase.
People complain that motorists are too lazy to find parking, but the truth is, THERE IS NO PARKING. (not nearly enough to justify a parking ticket anyway)

Its not the people, its the system.

Oh Gawd! Another blow to CY Culture. After the little birdies and smoking... it's now parking on pavements.

Boys and girls, enjoy the little bit of anarchy left in Europe, you'll miss it when it's gone.

Why do people move? obviously because they want a better life. Then they want everything the way it was where they were in the 1st place.. strange?

A stronger enforcement of traffic laws will not make Cyprus a police state! I agree that parking is limited but the biggest problem is the mentality of some people. I shop at Carefour twice every week and I always find parking with no problem but I always see cars parked at the disabled spaces even though the people driving them are perfectly fine! Those people just don't care and the only way to make them to care is to fine them!

one thing that might contribute to a better life and make Cyprus a better place is some consideration by motorists for pedestrians by NOT parking in a dangerous manner on footpaths etc. In may cases the poor parking is down either to idleness or meaness, in either not wanting to walk more than a few metres or not being willing to pay the Eu2 now charged in many places to park.

I have my own pet theories about the links between poor parking practices and general compliance with tradffic laws, the ineffectiveness of and lack of respect for the institutions of the law, and the risks of severe breakdowns in Public order.

I believe this problem is now almost eliminated in downtown Nicosia. Since the malls were built, less people choose to go shopping there.
