Travel Restrictions On Afrika Journalist

Postby bill cobbett » Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:44 am

An international media organisation (SEEMO) has condemned the Illegal Regime for refusing to allow the CY journalist Ibrahim Aziz from crossing the cease-fire line.

Aziz writes for the out-spoken Afrika newspaper in the Occupied Areas.

Had the honour of these guys' company a few weeks ago at their office in Nicosia, right under the eye of the Turkish Embassy. Needless to say, nothing conclusive has emerged from the "investigation" into the potentially Turkish-inspired shooting and death threat.

Do so wish they could reach a wider audience, perhaps through a blog or FB.

Aziz is from Potamia, he was not born in north Cyprus as the article suggests. As far as I know, he never ventured to cross the divide because he was afraid that he might get arrested.

Ah yes, wiki confirms.

... and also reminds us that Aziz dragged the Republic before the ECHR in 2004 in a violation of his voting rights, with the Court finding in his favour.

I remember when his father died and they could not find a hoja (turkish priest) to conduct the religious service and eventually one from Turkey was summoned to Potamia. Hard liner Demetris Sillouris, who is also from Potamia, made a nice speach on the day and he called Ibrahim's father "thie" - uncle, on a number of occasions.

Unfortunately, Afrika journalists must endure much.

Freedom of speech, without let or fear, is important.

I wish Mr Aziz good luck, and from our point, he is most welcome to come to the free part of Cyprus.

Perhaps some of you may like to attend a meeting at which Ibrahim Azis's book will be presented. It's on Thursay June 30, at the House of Europe, 30 Vironos Avenue, Nicosia. Takis Hadjidemetriou and Michalis Papapetrou will revue the book and there will be political interventions (so says the invitation I got) from Xenia Constantinidou (DISI) and George Loucaides (AKEL). Sener Elcil and Themos Demetriou will say a few things too. The book is titled:

LOOKING BEHIND THE SCENES (ΜΑΤΙΑ ΣΤΟ ΠΑΡΑΣΚΗΝΙΟ)

Paphitis, you have not been listening. Azis has never left the free parts.

It is very sad to see TC's enduring so much struggle form their own so called supporter. Turkeye

Thank fully the internet may show the wider international community that Turkey is nothing more than an occupation regime with dictatorship type behaviour over a defenseless minority population in their own Country. It is actually no different to the colonisation of Australia by the british where the subgugated the Aboriginal population to point of near extinction.

Andrea, you should always keep in mind that the TCs are collaborators in all of this Cyprob. They were the ones killing the GCs after being handed to them by the Turkish army in '74. Now you feel sorry for them???

They show no remorse, continue to want and would not hesitate to stab you once you turn your back. Just ask VP who is representative of the average TC. So he and others say.
