Republic Holds Out Olive Branch To Erdogan

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Republic Holds Out Olive Branch To Erdogan

Fron CY Mail...

Seems that the Government is urging Turkey and Erdogan to work towards "zero problems" with its neighbours, and towards a rights-based settlement...

... and to “review the arrogant positions and policies being implemented on Turkish Cypriots”....

“The Republic of Cyprus is ready to build a zero-problem relationship with Turkey, and have a special relationship with both Turkey and Greece. This presupposes Turkey cooperates in achieving a just, viable and functional solution on the basis of a bizonal bicommunal federation, which will restore the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the human rights and fundamental liberties of all people, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots,” he added.

Ah yes, the "zero-problem" policy. I always wondered what happened to that.

Yes... quite funny really, Stephanos throwing back that much-used phrase from Turkey's recent statements and exploits in Foreign Policy... ones that don't seem to have got Turkey or the region terribly far.

Did anyone notice Erdogan's victory speech after the recent elections?

"Believe me, Sarajevo won today as much as Istanbul, Beirut won as much as Izmir, Damascus won as much as Ankara, Ramallah, Nablus, Jenin, the West Bank, Jerusalem won as much as Diyarbakir."

Looks like Erdogan's neo-Ottoman delusions are now in full play. This is the new self-proclaimed Sultan of the new Turkish empire that we are negotiating with for the return of our lands...

...good point Hermes, thanks for that.

...notice no Girne or Marras(did I spell it right?)

seriously, sounds like a good basis for talks, should Turkey recognise the Republic of Cyprus...
...but i am being cynical.
