IS THERE A TARGET PAINTED ON MY BACK?
In the words of Comedian, George Gobel, "Have you ever felt like the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?”.
Computers and hi-tech stuff is everywhere. If you are not under 30 and raised in the new hi-tech world, you become an easy target by those with even a little more savy than you. Moreover, if you are a newcomer, non-English speaking and OMG! a single woman, you should not even dream to receive proper advice at a fair price.
My recent experience with a British Satellite TV reception “expert” in Oroklini made that point expensively clear. He had the gift of rattling off a line of technical sounding gibberish that made him sound like an expert. I now remember the definition of the word expert. An "ex" is a "has been" and a "spurt" is a "drip, under pressure". Not a good combination if he must be trusted to provide important technical service for you.
I was provided a service, yes, but felt I had been taken advantage of after being told that had paid an inflated price.
Fortunately, a friendly Cypriot neighbour fixed the problem I had, in a couple of minutes, and saved me from paying another 400 € for unnecessary upgraded equipment.
QUESTION, QUESTION, QUESTION the credentials of people who claim to be experts in a field where you have little knowledge. Nice looking Business Cards or fancy Ads do not make an expert. It's performance and word of mouth from your neighbours and friends that is far more valuable.
