In the normal course of things... if you are male, have a CY father and you are aged between 18-50 you are obliged to do the service, no matter where in the world you were born, if you want to stay for more than 6 months in CY.

This may give more info...

Well if you can convince them to class you as an "overseas cypriot" and you were born overseas, you'll only have to do 6 months or get them to look in to your medical condition.

(... oh ...and get your passport renewed... mean what sort of Englishman are you going around in foreign places with an expired passport? )

Go to the army and tell them that you will not serve because that is what your mom said. I am sure they will agree ;) But seriously, if you want to avoid your obligations in Cyprus then go to the UK. Why don't you do that?

The only option is to go to the UK and not return until 50.

Like someone else, you might be able to get it reduced, but you've been here for a long time now so maybe not. Also there's the heart condition, but you'll have to prove it all with doctors documents etc
You'll have to go to the office and see what happens, noone here can tell you what will happen
