Just heard on Sigma lunchtime news that there will be flights going to Tymbou without stopping in Turkey!!!!! From Iran!!!!!

Hang on a minute, Iranian airlines are not allowed to fly to civilised countries due to their bad safety record, so possibly a disaster to happen sometime after they start.

Sorry if I offended you, especially if it was on religious grounds. It was intended to be light-hearted. Joking apart, I would be disappointed if a female family member took to covering up, burka-style. Nowhere in the Koran is this practice insisted upon and in my opinion it is all about male power and control over women. Although I think I can understand the real subtext behind the Saudi driving ban.

The tradition of being veiled goes back a very long time in the middle east, where covering the body and the face may in fact have had some practical benefits for protection against the sun and/or blown sand. If I recall my Bible correctly jacob was caught out by being married off to first to Leah before Rachel, the deception facilitated because Leah was veiled.

However I share the view that the veil has since become an intsrument of oppression of women, through being given some sort of religeous imperative, indeed organised religion of all kinds represents an attempt at thought control with the invention of the divine right of rulers and concepts of Heresy, , etc used to oppress political opponents on religeous grounds.

i agree that having to wear a veil all the time can't be very nice. unless - with the greatest of respect garnished with a juicy red cherry on top - ur ugly, in which case it might be a good idea... (no offense is intended to ugly people).

Some one once told me there was no such thing as an ugky woman - just a shortage of Vodka.
However women are allowed to be ugly - unfortunately some really abuse the privilege!!
They fit into the category of "Double baggers"
