I am writing a novel that includes some characters who are Greek Cypriots and I need help to make them as authentic as possible. Even though I am writing in English, I would like to include some Greek words / phrases that might be used by real people. For example, in English when we are talking to someone we might start a sentence with, "Damn it!..." for emphasis, or "For heaven's sake..." What would a thirty-year-old Greek Cypriot man actually say instead? Any help or suggestions is appreciated, thanks.

"Thkiavole Mavre" would be preety close. Meaning 'black devil'.

On the second one... for Heaven's sake...

Don't think a direct translation would be used, more likely one of the following...

Για όνομα του Θεού/Γ' όνομα του Θεού .... Y' onomah dou Theou ... In God's Name

Kiriaillaison ... Lord have mercy/Lord forgive us

Christos jeh Panayia .... Jesus and Mary

Anyone agree/disagree??????

Malakas was an ancient Greek philosopher (if I am not mistaken) :lol:
