I am trying to figure out what to do for our holidays this summer and one thing that came to my mind was a road trip across Europe. Something like flying to Athens then driving from there all the way to Paris and then from Paris flying back to Cyprus.

What I didn't manage to find out is car rental companies that will allow you to rent a car in one country and then return it back in another. I tried http://www.europcar.com/ that seems to be doing that, but every time I try it comes up with "Sorry there are currently no rates matching your pick-up criteria: please amend location or date"!!

how many days?
europcar its a good rental company, i must warn you that is not cheap.

It is just an idea ... I didn't think of it in detail yet. I first wanted to find out how much the car rental would be and then decide I should investigate this more or not. Based on my very preliminary calculations the trip from Athens to Paris should be about 2 weeks if I go through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Belgium, less if I go through Italy.

I did Piraeus to Calais in a tourist coach many years ago, and it sucked big time! :lol:

Maybe stay more than 1 night in some places. I was not planning to drive for more than 6 hours each day.

I think it would be too much trouble. Furthermore my car is quite old and since the road trip would be one-way I would then have to ship my car back from Paris ... which I am sure would be expensive.

6 hours??? I’d die after 6 hours!

After the first 200-300 miles you no longer want to look out the window even though it’s “new” country… you just wanna puke and go home!
