What Does Papadopoulos really want?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:27 pm

Let us see who the liar is:

For a start, Papadopoulos himself has claimed on numerous occasions that he was an EOKA regional commander. You can either believe him or Kifeas. Then, one has only to read through back issues of the “Egerterion Salpispa” periodical to arrive safely at the conclusion that he was the head of the execution squads. Papadopoulos wrote:

“Naturally we are sorry when we find ourselves in the dire position to punish our compatriots, be they leftists or not. We are waging a national struggle and we cannot allow little people that till today have offered nothing to the struggle and as a party and according to A PLAN AND DIRECTIVES accuse the real patriots. Everything that is rotten must be cut off and the prize for treason is death”. Notice the use of “we” in all cases. He places himself in the inner circle that murdered and intimidated people that he declared as traitors.

On November 30 2004, the “Politis” newspaper carried a lead article in which it is claimed that “the President of the Republic was the theoretician of the executions. It could be argued that he was also the main instigator, since he was the general head of PEKA, the organisation which had been gathering information on the action of the left-wing party and handing it over to Grivas. This information was the incriminating evidence that led to the declaration of “traitors” and to their subsequent death sentence”.

Why did he choose the pseudonym of “Defkalion”? It has to do with Greek mythology. When people became very bad, Zeus decided to exterminate them with a cataclysm. Titan Prometheus advised his son Defkalion to build an arc in order to save himself. When the rain started Defkalion locked himself in the arc with his wife Pyrra. Everyone was killed and the arc, after nine days, landed on top of mount Parnassos.

Defkalion offered sacrifices to Zeus who was very pleased. Zeus told Defkalion he would grant him one favour and duly, Defkalion asked for … people. Zeus obliged and ordered the two survivors to cover their face and start moving while taking stones from the ground and throwing them behind them. Where the stones thrown by Defkalion landed the earth gave men and where the stones of Pyrra landed the earth gave women. Thus, a new people were born, with no connection with the past. Later, Defkalion and Pyrra had their own children, Hellene, Amfiktion, Protogeneia, Melantho, Thia and Pandora. Hellene, their first born became the father of the Greeks.

So, Defkalion, ie Papadopoulos, wanted to get rid of the old order, just like Zeus did away the bad people and the leftists and the TC’s got into his way. He prepared his own cataclysm and he even threatened to use it in 1964 when he sent an ultimatum to the American Embassy in Nicosia calling for the Turkish bombings of Tylliria to stop, otherwise he promised to raze to the ground two TC villages. The letter which bears his signature points out that the threat was no hoax because “we have the Plan and the Means to do it”. The Plan was the Akritas Plan (there is no doubt he was the author, one can find his usual legal jargon in it. Besides, Yiorgatzis was practically illiterate, he could hardly write his name) and the means the thousands of his fascist faithful who even conducted military exercises in the Troodos region.
Klerides was no saint and I have said this on many occasions but at least he found the courage to say his mea culpa in his books “My deposition” and in numerous interviews. He even listed the errors he made during his political life and it takes a courageous man to do this in our plantation.

Your Greek mythology mastering impresses me but that by it-self doesn't make you any less of a liar. In fact it just proves were you are coming from, and verifies and consolidates your real quality, that of a myth teller.

I have just read the Akritas Plan for myself for the first time (thank you Kifeas for the link).
I have a few questions that trouble me.
Firstly, how do we know this is the genuine article and not a watered down substitution? Was it ever authenticated by anyone?

Secondly, assuming it is authentic,it openly talks about their ultimate goal which is Enosis. These were people with official positions in the Government of Republic of Cyprus. They were working in secrecy to abolish the Republic and join Cyprus to a foreign country. Is that not an act of treason against the state they had(presumable) sworn to uphold and protect? If it is,where does that leave Papadopoulos now?

The 1960 constitution is similar to the Iraq constitution under the force of superpowers for there own benefit , so acting against it is a patriotic act not treason. The Annan plan is just the revised version of the 1960 constitution and Papadopoulos and the majority of GCs were smart enough to vote NO!!!!!

Birkibrisli, as far as i can see...the Cyprus Conflict website tells the most balanced and fair account of the Cyprus Probelm...therefore, by reading the rest of the website, we can only take for granted that what is written is the truth.

Greekmaniac, you would be right if you were talking about someone like Grivas, for example. He was not a member of the RoC,so he could argue he was doing his patriotic duty. But when we are talking about Ministers in the government of RoC who must have sworn ouths of alligence to protect the 1960 constitution, and secretly go about plotting to abolish that state,I think legally that would constitute treason. Not that I want to open that can of worms. But things are not as black and white as you portray them imo.

I believe the treason occured when Makarios signed and agreed to that constitution in 1960 , the dismantling of it is considered a patriotic act.

The problem with the constitution and the Annan plan is that TCs want special treatment , it would be like the blacks in america saying they demand 30 senators and the vice president to be black regardless of what the majority wants , if this is your idea of peace than shoot me in the head now cause I dont want to be around to see which GC politician sells Cyprus for the bargain price of nothing.
