President will visit Australia !

Everything related to politics in Cyprus and the rest of the world.

Postby Bananiot » Mon May 30, 2011 8:57 am

Christofias and his entourage is back home at last. Another succesful visit completed, perhaps more important than the infamous India visit of Kyprianou in the 80's, who came back and told us that the non-alligned movement is right behind us!

This is from another thread but there is considerable overlap here enough o confuse a moralist like piratis.

Furthermore, I wouldn't call Australia a diplomatic minnow. It is a country you would want to have on your side, because it has incredible influence in the UN, US, NATO, and EU.

In fact, Australia plays a far greater role in Cyprus than Germany does.

This is what Paphitis said the other day in order to emphasise the importance of his adopted country. Incredible influence with NATO, he says. Perhaps Australia can help us to become members of the PfP programme. The whole of Cyprus is yearning for this door to open for us. Can Australia do something about this?

Since time eternal, the US has interfered with our affairs, can Australia whisper something in the ears of Obama to leave us along.

And the EU. What a joke! Australia has incredible influence in the EU, Paphitis wants us to believe. We are members of the EU and yet we need Australia to say a kind word about Cyprus to the EU! This is amazing and it gets better. Our NATOphobic and extreme Eurosceptic President, needs the services of our Australian friends (so tells us Paphitis) in order to ................................................................................... (Paphitis, please fill in, so that we can understand the point you are making).

Australia is a major industrialized nation Bananiot, with big industry, and a major Energy and resources exporter. Yes, it has massive influence with the major EU nations such as UK, France, Italy, and Germany amongst others.

It also has massive influence in Israel, a major ally, and Turkey.

Yes, if Australia were to say nice words about Cyprus to the UK or Germany, or even the UN security council, they will listen.

If Australia were to stand up at a NATO summit(Australia attends these summits as an important associate member) and demand that Cyprus becomes a member, then this will place Turkey on the spot.

Australia has far more pull than Turkey, and this also applies to the PfP.
If Christofias asks Australia's PM to raise Cyprus at NATO summits because it will like to join, then Australia will probably do it no matter what Turkey has to say, and they will even bring this matter up within the US administration, and Defence circles within the Pentagon through Australia's Defence representatives. They will listen because Australia is an important ally, far more important Turkey and far more trusted.

And one more thing, Australia's nice words are a given. There is no reason for Australia to give Cyprus a hard time. The 2 countries have been friends for a long time, and Christofias has not returned empty handed either. He has obtained some goodies for Cyprus, in that there will probably be Australian fire fighters in Cyprus the next time there are big fires.

That's what Australia does for its friends. Perhaps Germany can do the same as well!

Paphitis, for Christ's sake, by the time the Australian fire fighters come to Cyp the place will be scorched. Regarding the PfP, Australia can shout as much as she wants, Christofias does not want, he will not take. NATO and the EU are the opposite sides of the same coin, (slautherers of the people)as far as Christofias is concerned, this is what I was trying to tell you).

No!

Australia has massive Air Lift capability and these Galaxy/Globemaster Aircraft are on permanent standby. They fly all over the world at a moments notice. From Iraq, to Afghanistan, and Japan.

The RAAF is quickly able to mobilise and respond. The delaying factor would be the Fire Service, but they too can probably mobilise units very quickly!

One more thing Bananiot! Australia is not my adopted nation. I was born here, and have earned the right to call myself Australian more than most! Got it???

And Christofias contempt for NATO is understood Bananiot, so I don't think Australia will unilaterally speak on Cyprus' behalf at those summits.

But Christofias will not be in power forever. One day a pro NATO President will be elected, and if that President asked certain things from Australia, then I have no doubt that Australia will comply in Cyprus' favour at NATO summits, to the UN Security Council, to the US administration or wherever that newly President would like.

Cyprus needs to ask, not just Australia, but others who are willing to help and the island's true friends, like Australia, will respond and to hell with what Turkey thinks or if it jumps up or down making big fools of themselves in NATO, to the EU, the PfP and UN!

According to newspaper reports today, Christofias came back empty handed from Australia. Not a single agreement was signed. Newspapers suggest that Christofias merely took a week's holiday and called it state visit, so that his expenses would be born by the taxpayer.

He also made a mess with the Danish Prime Minister when the latter was handing over the rotating presidency of EU to Christofias. Our president said: "I thanks the Prime Minister of Denmark, for the pass he makes to me ... like messi". Nobody told him that "making a pass" at someone implies something entirely different.
