Turkish Cypriots to vote in (RoC) parliamentary elections

A TOTAL of 544 Turkish Cypriots, who meet the provisions of the law, are registered to vote in the parliamentary elections on Sunday.

A copy of the ballot paper will be displayed at the polling stations in which the Turkish Cypriot voters will be casting their votes, along with instructions in Turkish on how to vote.

According to the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, the citizens of the Republic belonging to the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities are registered in separate electoral polls and vote separately to elect respectively the President and Vice President of the Republic, and each community's MPs for the House of Representatives, which is 70 per cent Greek Cypriots and 30 per cent Turkish Cypriots.

Since 1964, after intercommunal unrest, the Turkish Cypriot right had not been exercised. In 2006, the Republic of Cyprus, complying with a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in an appeal by Turkish Cypriot Ibrahim Aziz, made temporary arrangements through legislation to enable Turkish Cypriots, residing in the government controlled areas, to vote and be elected.

Hopefully, we all, Cypriots, will realize that this is (the basis & thinking thereof) the ONLY solution:

http://antifon.blogspot.com/2010/12/pre ... osals.html

Everything else is an exercise in futility we have been forced to engage in, because of the Greek fascists in 1974, who are long gone, and the Turkish fascists, who unfortunately still either rule or influence the direction of Turkey Minor.

The above unitary solution is also the TYPE of solution to the Kurdish problem of Turkey Minor.

Let's all follow the thinking of Turkish fascism in Turkey Minor. Our arguments will seem immensely more solid and more fair in as far as the outside world is concerned. We have allowed Turks and a minority of extremist tCypriots define the game for too long. Time to change our tune.

I think all major political parties have an obligation to have Turkish Cypriot candidates or at least a number of key staff members. Extremist nationalist groups on both sides will not be able to exploit ethnicity to distinguish between Citizens.

I am sure some months ago there was talk about one of the parties putting up a TC candidate for the house elections, which obviously never came to anything.

Anyone recall which party it was?

If more TCs vote in the elections .. say 5000-10000 then most parties will want to have TC candidates. But 544 people is a very low number.

Maybe I am being naive but if a Turkish Cypriot candidate is supported by a major party it would be very symbolic and it would silence nationalists. Do you think Bananiot can run as the first Turkish Cypriot Candidate since 1974?

After these solution talks fail as they will surely do, the President of the ROC, should invite the tc's to choose a leader, obviously excluding the say of the turk settlers, who have no rights in cyprus, and send him to the un to work out a solution with the leader of the ROC.

when the tc's fully participate in the ROC elections all parties of cyprus will want to include them in their midst, except a few nationalist, who are insignificat today. Politicians who are into being politicians for their own self interests(at least thats how i see them), would bend over backwards to garnish the tc vote. in the occupied territories there are left wing, center, right wing and communist/socialist, why would cyprus have two communist parties for instance if both could join up as one, their interests and philosophis are the same and being joined would make them more powerful and so on and so forth

Yeah, lets have more rules based on ethnic discriminattion.

Let there be TCs who get voted in along with everyone else, not just because they are TCs.

Seems the PC brigade is also coming to Cyp.
