hang on a minute.... let's not confuse the issue. being a "good turk" is not the same as being a "good cypriot".

Halil proved to be a good Kibrisli alright, that was confirmed by others who met him too, i still remember that young Kypreos girl studying to be a school teacher whom he helped so much in making her thesis.

I still hold the view that halil is a confused Kibrisli though.

I remember before the "presidential" elections in the occupied he was telling me "hey Pyro are you crazy, what you said will help the Denktashes/Eroglus do you want us (the Talats) to lose?"

And then after Eroglu got elected (by the settlers) he came here proudly boasting for his "president"..

tsk tsk tsk

Speaking after his regular meeting with Dervis Eroglu, Christofias said he had proposed that he and Eroglu meet before then. He also said he intended to call for a National Council or party leaders’ meeting beforehand.

Referring to a recent statement by the UN S-G that both sides needed to negotiate a solution to the Cyprus problem “with a sense of give and take, and compromise”, Christofias said: “I have asked for us to start discussions on the tripartite meeting and its content, including the various whispers on ‘give and take’ and I want us to explain to each other what we perceive as being ‘give and take’”, he said. “Negotiations without give and take are not negotiations; but give and take on what matters? This is what we need to clarify.”

The Greek Cypriot side, he added, has made it very clear that an international conference on the Cyprus problem could only ever materialise “in the event that we are very close to an agreement on all matters, including internal aspects”.

During yesterday’s meeting, the two community leaders also discussed matters of internal security.

Speaking afterwards, the UN special adviser in Cyprus, Alexander Downer, said the discussion was carried out “in a very constructive environment”.

“They continued, as they both agreed, in a positive manner on discussions on police matters,” said Downer. “The leaders also had quite a long discussion about the upcoming meeting with the Secretary-General, and both sides agreed to exchange opinions with each other on the issue of the meeting with the Secretary-General with a view to making that meeting a really successful meeting.”

The two leaders will meet again on June 1.

The UN wants the two sides to adopt a game plan to resolve outstanding issues in peace talks this year and is hoping for a deal by mid 2012, UN envoy Alexander Downer told Reuters in an interview .

"We don't have a deadline as such, but obviously everybody is working to try to get the agreement done before Cyprus takes over the presidency of the EU," said Downer. That position had been adopted by a number of EU leaders and Christofias, he said.

Referring to the tripartite meeting on July 4, Downer said: "We will want this meeting to be a meeting that really helps to drive the process forward towards the end of the year, for the rest of the year. We want it to be a bit more than a routine stock taking."

Downer said he had been discussing ideas for what he described as an "action plan" with the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders before meeting Ban.

"I think they are quite responsive to those ideas...our ideal would be for the two leaders to go to the meeting with an agreed approach," Downer said. "I'm hoping for an action plan to be agreed."

He added: "They obviously haven't agreed on everything so the question is how we are going to encourage them to agree on all of the outstanding issues from now on."

Cyprus assumes the EU presidency in June 2012 and holds its own domestic presidential elections in February 2013. It is unclear whether Christofias will seek re-election.

Downer added that if the two sidess don’t manage to do it by the time Cyprus takes over the EU presidency then it's hard to believe how they will make any great strides forward during Cyprus's presidency or the presidential elections.

"It stands to reason that it would be for the best to try to get everything signed and sealed - not delivered - but signed and sealed before then”, he said.

...........So UN wants dead by mid 2012...........So what will happen if it doesn't ? Do UN has any answer for US to say ? !!!!!

Correcting title" President of ROC and Muchtar of T/cs, as well as UN General Ban Ki-moon, will meet on 4 July in Geneva, it was announced yesterday."

Above just , for all of us " to be official when we are posting...

A person who cares about his family and his friends, what more can you ask from a person. Those who voted "no" in 2004 should feel ashamed of themselves because their short sightedness and inbuilt nationalism and racism (what do you expect from a Turk - said B25 - they are all filthy) did not let them see that the next plan would be worse, just like the Annan Plan was worse than the one before it.

Siga re, akouses Halil, tzie kavloses.

"Those who voted "no" in 2004 should feel ashamed of themselve"

Well, says it all really, 76% of the GC popluation voted NO, and you blacken them over Halil, I rest my case.

Bravo Bananiotoglu, eisai leventis.

Partition is what we have now. The north is being Turkified at a very fast rate. Soon it will be unrecognisable. When my generation dies no one will think of the north as ours. Solution is the only salvation and insted of firing at the Annan Plan, tell us how we can solve it so that partition will be blocked. Remember, the solution has to be agreed by the two communities. Only feasible suggestions count. The rest are discarded. Not worth considering ...

You can joke all day about this bill, but ... half of it is in. In 10 years there will be a million Turks (from Turkey) in the north and nobody would be able or willing to shift them. This is our future without solution.

Here's a proper joke mate >>> Not my future fileh, there are days here in London when already feel surrounded by a million Turks, but what's worse is being swamped by 300,000 CYs, and we all know how noisy and argumentative they can be.

But enough of the banter, let's get back to Halil, who doubtless is a very nice chappy, and his views, and to make it less personal, let's ask what the CYs living under the Turkish Occupation, the sort who have taken to the streets in past weeks; what are they are offering the other man to get him to vote yes... cos all am hearing from them so far is loadsa love and cuddles, loadsa sing-a-longs but nothing of any substance.
