How to ged rid of the terms GC/TC?

Postby Pyrpolizer » Wed May 11, 2011 1:27 pm

The terms GreekCypriot TurkishCypriot and their Greek& Turkish equivalents always bothered me, because there is no way to tell what comes first.

I want to keep the word Cypriot plus something else that will vaguely indicate the language and or origin of each.

Any suggestions?

Simple answer to that, get rid of the Turks, and you only have Cypriots :)

Yep, the CYs living under the Turkish Occupation and the CYs living in the Free Areas would be soooooo much better off without Turkey, or Gr for that matter.

Well how about
Cypriot-ts
Cypriot-gs
ts standing for turkish speaking
and gs standing for greek speaking
at least with the s we get rid of any ethnicity nonsense, it is just what we speak.

In Greek that your be
eo and to (ellinika omilon toyrkika omilon)
and in Turkish some other initials of same meaning after Kibrisli-

I would like to think of something better though, any REAL help around?

Just call them Cypriot. Why should there be something in the title that indicates language? If they ask what language you speak or what ethnicity you are you say Greek or Turkish or Armenian or whatever else. If they ask what religion you are then you say. Why should any of this info be included in the title? I think this is done for discrimination!

To the eyes of foreigners we will all be Cypriots of course, in fact that;s what most of us say when they go abroad.
However internally we do need some differentiation in how we call each other, not for discrimination purposes but for other purposes.

I just want to replace the words GCs and TCs that we USE today with something better.
