at the time it was revolutionary... but wot "our church" has done since is all the things you mention...

cypriots are trailblazers. and if we saved ourselves from the false teachings and negative influence of "our church" we could be so again.

Sure, we were trailblazers due to our geography, and we were also the very first to persecute Jesus and his follower Paul other than the Jews and Romans!

wot a load of bollox. cypriots never persecuted jesus, nor paul. paul, it's said, woz scourged in cyprus, but by the roman governor, who later converted to christianity.

Cypriots persecuted Jesus by scourging Paul!

However, legend says that before Paul was able to make the proconsul Sergius Paulos (the first Roman official to convert to Christianity) believe the teaching of the Lord, the local pagans in Paphos lashed him to a marble pillar and “scourged him 39 times”. The said pillar is now known as “St. Paul’s Pillar”, which is at present one of the most famous tourist attractions in Paphos.

allegedly... the whipping isn't referred to in "acts". but it was the roman governor himself (whose headquarters were in paphos) who would have ordered the whipping. paul was a roman citizen. locals - as in cypriots (non romans) - wouldn't have the authority to whip him.
