Is anybody going to the Parikiaki, at Alexandra's Palace, in London?

Have you been before? If you have, what kind of stalls are usually there?

What's the food like?

I used to go in the late 80's and early 90's. Are you sure you want to go there? I would expect it wont be your kettle of fish, but don't let me discourage you. Go and tell us about it.

Thanks for the reply...why would you think I wouldn't like it? (You're not going take a cheap shot, are you?). A huge hall, full of Greeks eating and drinking, with music and singing - how could it not be good?

I was hoping it wasn't going to be all mousaka or pastitso, but pastourma and loukoumades.

It has a political tinge too. This is what I meant.

Mrs C is a regular goer. Yeah lots of stalls selling souvlakia, shami-shee, and the usual CY buffet foods. Music and dancing by performers.

Stavros Flatley and Son put on a show last year.

not my cupotea. too noisy... usually too hot. it's a wine festival but they hand out the wine 'me do staghono-medro' (with a pipette)... oh and as well as the food sellers there are loads of pointless exhibitors, like the 'metropolitan police greek cypriot officers association'... badly organised. too many speeches - in greek. but it is akel uk. a big hit for the over 70s.

could be massive... ie. north london's answer to notting hill carnival.... but too parochial... not inclusive enough for my liking.

Bananiot...I would have thought the only political side to this would have been by the audience on individual tables.

bill cobbett...Mrs C goes but you don't? The stands sound alright actually.

ZoC...Hahaha 'me do staghono-medro'. As long as they don't charge full whack for that, it's not too bad. Ah, the political side of it - and by AKEL! I don't really want to turn this thread into a political one, but I once hoped that AKEL had run the country and the Russians had helped us more in the 1960's, then we perhaps wouldn't be in the mess we're in now (probably a whole different mess!!). I agree with you that with the size of the Grek community down in London it could be a huge gig, as the Greeks from Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Plymouth, etc. would probably go, too.

I'm hoping it's a good do - we'll be going down from Manchester on the Friday night and staying in Finchley, coming back on the Sunday. I was going to spend all day there - I hope there's enough to do!!

Thanks for all your replies and letting me know what to expect.
