DT, you do not know what you are talking about. Our kids are taught creation since kinderkarden and before and then systematically from the first form of Elementary School to the third form of Lyceum. They ARE NOT taught evolution, just like in all backward countries but you choose to believe the ranting of Sotos who, like a spoilt child, simply has the need to disagree with everything I say. A bit like you, really.

Just in case you think that evolution is taught in Greece, here is a text by a Greek biologist who teaches in Greece:

Short translation: Pavlos Antonopoulos a Biology teacher in Greece. He writes about how upset he is by the fact that evolution has been deliberately left out from the theory and practice of the Greek education system. He refers to the book Sotos posted (the one he thought that it was taught in Cyprus an DT hurried to agree with him) and points out the chapter on evolution was placed at the very end of the book and IT IS not part of the curriculum.

I don't doubt we're a backward country when it comes to religion. What I do doubt is you insisting that evolution not taught in Cyprus.

Here's what a survey of European and the American public came up with.

Btw those of us that had a proper education in the English School were taught evolution

Jesus DT! Evolution is not taught in the public schools of Cyprus, I cannot make it any plainer. It is an integral part of the biology GCE syllabus but it is completely absent from government school examination syllabuses. How then is it going to be taught? If you still doubt me, hop to the nearest kiosk ang buy the examination guide booklet and you just might be convinced.

A series of article in VEMA science, written by the ex head of the Greek Paedagogical Institute is also vary revealing. You see, there may be school books in Greece that carry a chapter on evolution but this does not mean that evolution is taught.

Now, instead of doubting me (bloody hell, I wrote the Biology book used in the 3rd form of Lycea, I should know) you should start wondering as to the reasons evolution is not taught and thinking of ways to do something about it. Even the Arabs have woken up when will we?

For all it's worth; it's just as well "evolution" isn't taught at schools. Best to get the basics in first (that's all the average high school teacher can manage), and then it will all fall into place for the more curious ... :D
