Are some big business interests anti-settlement??

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How about all the franchises in the south T.G.I fridays Macdonalds...ect will the same people operate them in the North? If the case is yes then certain business people will actually have great interests for a solution.

yes that is true and there will be opportunties to be had for all Cypriots if there is a fair and just solution that allows for (with certain limited exceptions) all Cypriots to return to property that was abandoned in the face of the various bouts of intercommunal violence, as defined by the legal ownership position in 1960 and lawful sales thereafter.

However I cannot see Ecan being demolished as a part of any settlement, rather I suspect it could become the prefered choice of some airlines, particularly if it under-cuts Hermes, and of some travellers, particularly in the NIcosia region, and $600 million or more investment is probably worth a lot more than the benefits to be gained from fast food franchises spreading North.

It’s amazing that some people are actually able to discuss “opportunities to be had” under some imagined “settlement” at some point in time, the details to which they are privy!

Yes, but although there is an obvious advantage in having a central airport, isn't there an obvious disadvantage with an airport at Tymbou??? ... Noise!!!! ... over a populated area, .. something which, at least on landing, doesn't effect LCA.

If you want to play the hypothetical game you should first specify WHICH CyProb plan you’re imagining to be living under…

ie:

Under AP4, such and such would’ve happened!

Under Galli3, such and such would’ve happened!

Etc…

Or maybe this is a hypothetical game under a new Cyprus plan yet to be written!

Nothing wrong with investment occurring either way halil. Right now a lot of money is coming into turkey from Greek Cypriots who are buying up businesses in turkey. Greece did the same a while back with most notably the acquisition of finanzbank by National Bank of Greece. (recently reduced holding at a good price)

No one wants to turn away investment, turkey didn't so why should we?

I did say if there is a settlement: the point I was raising is to question if there are there certain vested commercial interests who may have a lot to lose and who are able to put a spanner in the works of the talks through influence.

(a) Landing should be a lot quieter than take-off
(b) the alignment of the main runway at Tymbu seems to avoid most of the main residential areas and it appears to be about 8.5 Km before approaching any such areas: not quite sure how high the plane would be at that point, but probably not so very noisy on the ground - (about the same as to Windsor).

The only ones who don't want to see a "settlement" are the (~ 5,000) British Carpetbaggers, the ( ~ 200,000) Turkish Settlers, maybe 50% of the TCs, the MOD-SBAs (as they'll be next for "settlement").

Every single GC cannot wait for the day when their whole island is free - none would be fazed by any "financial setbacks" that you can possibly imagine, since setting up new, successful businesses is second nature to the average GC!
