Intesting comment offered to me last night while I was looking at the Blue Mosque.

Some one near by commented on the sight and made the remark," by the way I am not Turkish but I am Cypriot!".

He had no problems when I said I lived in the South.

It is interesting to see the debate on this one.

I was at my mothers very early this morning and she turned the tellie on RIK 2? and we watched RIK/BIZ? a joint TC/GC presented show.

A cover if April 1st Protest was televised. some of the people they interviewed had very strong opinions about Ankaras military base on Cyprus and how it impacts on their lives.

I think Turkey needs to re-think priorities, loyalty to the EU, honesty and transparency before She can even think of proceeding with her membership application.

True - but the point of E/U accession was to transform Turkey into a progressive liberal democracy as an example to the Muslim world. Clearly this was a ridiculous notion doomed to fail from the start. But it hasn't stopped the British, US and Scandinavians from pushing it. They still believe we can transform the Turk into a civilised, secular European. But they have little idea of what they are up against.

The EU leverage is not useless as it is still in Turkey's economic and strategic interests to join the EU. Even Erdogan knows this. In the end, Turkey will choose the EU over Cyprus and it will strike a deal. It's just a matter of time...

BAGIS SAID TURKEY WANTS TO COOPERATION WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION FOR A JUST SOLUTION IN CYPRUS ........................

Mr. Bagis delivered a speech at a conference on "Turkey-EU Relations" at the Law Faculty of University of Ljubljana yesterday.

Turkey's membership would be a win-win case for the EU, world and Turkey adding that Turkey had five expectations from the EU: "a just negotiations process, cooperation in counter-terrorism, cooperation for a just solution in Cyprus, visa exemption for Turkish citizens and extending invitations to Turkish prime minister and president for EU summits".

Bagis also criticized the EU for its unjust stance on the solution of the Cyprus problem.
Reminding the decision taken by the EU on the 26th of April 2004, he criticized the fact that although the decision is being practiced by the Greek Cypriot Administration, it is not being practiced by other 26 member countries.
