Although u can only see a part of it.

Thats nice. What are the front speakers? Compared to your setup my room will be purpose build since this will be in a new house. I am not planning to spend as much as you did for audio, I am just going to use an AV receiver not separates and my speakers will be cheaper. But I will probably spend a bit more for the projector, something like the X3 from JVC.

Those are martin logan summits, what u see next to the speakers are the monoblock amps. The av eq is in another room on a server rack. All the wires go under the floor or thru the celing. Since ur building it new come to nic one day for coffee to tell u what wire u need to pass. Regardless of what u plam to use u need to install the right piping, the rest can be done at any time

Jvc is very good but i will tell u where to buy it from greece, because the rep here is charging what ever he wants. For a good projector though u need a good screen and they cost a lot but life time gurantee. U might want to install a lift like i did to hide the pj when is not in use

Thanks cyprusgrump. When did you build your own? Did you try to find any specialists in Cyprus and couldn't find any? I am following a couple of forums on the subject and I learned a few things, but there is so much info it is not possible to learn everything! This is why I would be willing to hire a real pro. What I don't want is to make some commitment with somebody who is not much more than an AV equipment reseller. Obviously they will have more experience than me and that could be helpful, but I always like to buy the best equipment my budget can allow and I don't want to limit myself to the few brands that some shop imports! From what shops did you order your equipment? Do they ship to Cyprus or you had to arrange the shipping yourself?

I got the builder to make my cinema when the house was being built... it is a 7m x 5m concrete box buried under the house to keep noise to a minimum!

I then completed all the wiring and set-up myself...

I have a Meridian 5.1 system with a Sony Blu-Ray player and projector... I bought everything in the UK...

Are u from uk? Cause if u compare prices they are more expensive on av compared to cyprus.

Modestou sound & vision for example has the best prices for b&w speakers in europe however he charges the jvc pj very expensive

My summits cost me 8000cyp with the custom coloring in uk they retail 13000. I compared most of the prices and i know

Usually the premium stuff sell cheaper in cy because the need is very ltd

I came to Cyprus 8 years ago...

I have to say that my experience doesn't match yours.... everything I bought for my cinema was cheaper in the UK than here - including shipping costs...

The last thing I bought was a Sony Blu-Ray player - much cheaper on Amazon than any shop I could find it in here...

Charalambos, what are the places in Cyprus that have good prices on AV equipment? You mentioned Modestou sound & vision, but from what I remember when I went there a few years their prices didn't seem that great to me. If I can buy from a local shop with just slightly more money than buying online then I will go with the local shop.

Yes, most of the 'specialist' shops in the UK refuse to discount - preferring instead to offer service and support. If you want to do it yourself though you are paying for something you don't need...

Unfortunately, some of the high end manufacturers (like Meridian) will only sell through specialised retailers ensuring that their prices are kept high...

File you need to narrow it down to the eqouipment you plan to get. In limassol there s nothing fancy, only the guy i got my speakers from but some models are considered top

For projectors in cyprus you have task trading where you can get infocus. The guy knows his stuff and you can demo the pjs before you buy.

For jvc you need to go to modestou, his also the rep for b&w and you can get budget speakers from him and denon av stuff. His aim is to sell, his knowledge is ltd

For speakers and av equipment i would suggest pk digital, his the rep for kef. He can hook you up with any av stuff you need. Again you can get budget speakers and also top of the range stuff

If you want to buy everything from a single rep i would suggest Michalis. I know all of them and we can go together if you want to get you a discount

There s also a store in Athens. You can search in the internet projecting and sounding art. They are very good, have international projects ranked in top places in cedia and their prices are better compared to cyprus. You are buying from abroad, however their support is excellent

For av i would recomend only 2 brands onkyo or pioneer. At this moment they are the top value for money. I have a lexicon but thats another story

Better if u give me a call and thing stuff like 1. Hidden speakers or not 2. Any kind of automation? 3. Do u want wires to be run inwall? 4. Are u after a 5.1 or 7.1 5
