Gosh A... that last sentence of yours is a very interesting idea.

bill ... I really do believe that after three hundred years the TC's are as much a Cypriot as those of us who are remnants of the Helenic, Phoenician etc periods.

At the same time I believe that they have a place in Cyprus. What I vehemently disagree with is their claim that the 'trnc' is a separate Country. And that this action violates the basic human rights of their fellow Cypriots.

I recently watched two shows from RIK at my parents who have access to Cypriot channels.

its a RIK2 production with TC and GC presenters.

On those shows I have seen the positive stories of GC's and TC's living and working together.

I also w the interview of the organisers of the rallies and how they have stated that they are Cypriot and want representation. I am convinced that the majority of TC's probably those who have not married into settlers would feel that they want Turkey out and reunification to occur. Furthermore the overwhelming "YES" vote by the TC's back in the year of the referendum shows that TC's are ready to re unify because they want a better life.

If TC's can accept Cypriot ID cards, Cypriot/ EU passports and our government has granted those, then they should have the right to vote.

I believe in the last elections a TC woman in the free areas was one of the candidates and received votes. I believe she recieved over 1000 votes. This time she may receive more. This will be the beginning of representation for TC's in Cyprus. The more TC's that vote the more is an indication to UN that Turkey is truly an occupying force and they sooner or later have to account for that and take action on the illegal occupation of Cyprus.

The way I suggest they do this is by imposing economic sanction on Turkey and via the EU taking more responsibility in supporting their own little State called Cyprus by placing a total ban on EU investment in Turkey.

We have lost what we lost, we have accepted this fact. If Turkey feels she rather be under economic sanction for a third of Cyprus where even the majority of people she supposedly went in to save are saying they want her out, is more important than her freeing Cyprus and allowing her opportunity to join the EU then she can remain on Cyprus.

I love Cyprus because of its uniqueness. I live among Greek immigrants and we are clearly different people. I think the difference that I notice between Cypriot/ Australians and Greek/ Australians is the fact that we have adopted over the Centuries Ottoman traditions and those make us more similar to TC's than Greeks of Greece. I want a TC presence in Cyprus and support their existence on the Island but not in its current form.

I also Thank God we immigrated to Australia where multiculturalism is the norm and I can distance myself from the Cypro and see it in a different light.
