The TRNC to open up Maras.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Solution wise where has it gotten you? not what you have gotten in general. We do not want to be a minority in a GC state thats why we would only support a BBf with political equality of the 2 states.

You have no chance. You are a minority and shrinking, so go back to turkey and become part of their majority, you'll be much happier there. In fact we'll be much happier if you did. Oh, and take your peasant anatolian peasants with you.

And B25 just answered my above question

Of course but I have put forward a suggestion that the balance in the upper house should not be allowed to swing in favour of either the GCs or TCs.

Keep dreaming, your pro-partitionist plans will find themselves down the drain. We'll only agree on a unitary state.

Boilio I think there is a fundemental question here though, do you want to live with us as partners or do you just want to have cyprus as a greek cypriot island, would you prefer it if we all moved to Turkey?

No i think t/c should stay on cyprus because this is there home as well.I dont think the question is if someone wants to live in the north or not but if the have the right to.Most g/c(90%)would not move to a northern state the way the negotiations are going, but they should stll have the choice if theyde like to.

so it comes down to free will and choice what most will do is provbably the exact oppisite of what t/c fear as being overwealmed.

No everyone could vote for the candidate of their choice = one man one vote, the candidates with most votes from both ethnic backgrounds would take their places in the upper house to ensure power does not go to one side. How do you suggest we establish this balance so that neither side could exploit the system t gain power?

In practical terms it would take the Turkish Army only a few days to pull-out once the order was given, evactuating the Ordu Evler-which is the Sandy beach hotel and a few adjacent buildings which they use and are in good condition(see photos on multiply site). The real problem would then start with clearing the weeds and bushes from the roads in the rest of the closed area, but before even that could be done there needs to be a very careful check by a U.N. demining unit to remove any dangerous unexploded materials left from 1974.Then there would need to be a detailed survey of all the structural damage and repairs needed before anyone could inhabit the place again...not forgetting that meanwhile there would be enormous pressure from former Greek-Cypriot inhabitants wanting to see their properties and salvage any memoranda still left in them before any clearance and demolition could begin......the logistics of all this are enormous and would take months to action. All this is without considering which buildings would be renovated and who would decide, plus of course where all the funding would come from?
I dread to think how all this would be organised, knowing how people here behave!

I think the logistic and financial problems you raise can be overcome once the decision has been made to reopen Maraş under the control of the TRNC/Turkey.

A very bad idea for everyone!

Trying to re-open Varosha under Turkish control will only cause more bad feeling and make any chance of a solution and reconcilitation even harder!Or is that what some people are hoping for???If this happens the Turks will literally find out why the old saying about not fouling your own doorstep is true! They destroyed the place and will end up paying for it!
