From an interview given by Şener Elcil, Secretary General of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union KTOS:

[Turkey] has from the start adopted the rhetoric that this was an economic and not a political reaction which was being put forward by the Turkish Cypriots. This was not a correct rhetoric... The Turkish Cypriots in the north have ended up being a minority in our own home. We know the real aim of Turkey and of the Turkish leadership. We know they are implementing the policy of absorbing us and assimilating us. That is why there has been the uprising by the community.

Viewpoint wrote:No one is protesting to unite with GCs as what you are offering is definitely not what the Tcs want. If this is losing as you put it then weighted against minority rights in a GC state then we can be the losers, having use of 37% of the island is imo having something. Everything changed in 1974 and will never ever be the same again we have lived apart for to long to go back to how is was, you have to understand that you have to share equally with TCs if you want us even to consider uniting.

But you don't have 37 per cent of the island. You have 0 per cent. No recognition, no say in the running of the north and the threat of Turkish assimilation. You're in no position to dictate to the G/Cs the terms of a solution. Besides, any solution is predicated on UN resolutions and the EU acquis. You cannot expect more than this. But it's more than what you currently have: which is very little indeed.

You cannot blame just one side Chritofias lost his chance with the one leader he had the best opportunity to seal a deal with.

I am so glad the AP fell flat on its face and Papadopoulos is to thank for that.

We want a nation where we can be free to live where ever we choose too as any other citizen in any other EU State.

A BBF on a democratic basis is the only thing we should accept and for the settlers to return home. Unless they have been there for years and one of their children has married into a TC family (TC as per definition of birth prior to 74).

You still would have rejected it, the GCs are only interested in a solution that will give them control of the whole island the TCs in a minority status.
