Hi all,
As promised I have found out the story re a child born in Cyprus to a British subject.
We are totally unaware as to whether this is a similar scenario in Cyprus.
When my sons child was issued with a Cyprus birth certificate the nationality of the child automatically defaulted to the nationality of the father.....in this case British.
The child has a right, if he or she wishes, to amend this automatic registration of British to say that of the mother. Subject to the rules as laid down in the mothers country of birth.
There is no right to amend the childs nationality to Cypriot. ( We are only discussing ROC at this time).
To further answer an earlier question re UK nationality, up until 31st Dec 1982 there was an automatic right for a child born in the UK to take UK nationality.
This right no longer exists.
Re the Cyprus question for this child. As has been so rightly stated by other posts the definative answer can only come from the "Ministry".
But, in theory if the child has a birth certificate with a Cypriot father as the legal parent then I suspect the child will be able to take Cypriot nationality as the default to the fathers country of nationality.
