I'm not too sure what exact date my grandfather left for england.. i think 1959/1960, but he left with a british passport.. he's never had a cypriot passport.

Now I'm totally confused.
You have Quatts saying one thing (Irony and all)
Alex contradicting that
and Bill blowing the whole thing into a new dimension

Mate, call them fu**ers up in Nicosia and clear it up.

My info is solid, quattro says his source is an army officer so in the words of admiral ackbar...

... and yeah dunno about what bill posted. I'm not sure calling the army office up will help much tbh, they're pretty useless. That goes for the cypriot embassy offices in uk too i'm afraid. The info on the website i posted coincides with what i learnt after many trips to the army office in limassol and general research into the matter

Just adding the Rule of Law to the equation boys.

Don't think we should rely on opinions from CY Army Officers, no matter how senior, or the Army Office in Lim.

We need a CF definitive bit of research in to this affair... reh GR bou eeseh???

Everyone we've asked say different things, including the army office in limassol/cypriot embassy in london. I won't even begin the train ride of ranting on about what a ridiculous law this is!

That only gives you the "right" to apply for Cypriot nationality. It's not automatic like it is when your father is GC. If your father is non-Cypriot, and you do not apply for residency, they cannot force you (apparently). But double check with the Consulate in London.

If you are a citizen of the RoC and of eligable age, you do service.

If you moved here as a child with your parents and became a permanent resident you do service. Cypriot or not.

If you were born outside of Cyprus, and you want to reside here permanently, depending on your age, you will de various periods of service.

The rules are changing now so that even non cypriots would be eligable.
