It'ssssssssss Sssssspring with A Huge Full Moon.....!

Postby bill cobbett » Mon Mar 21, 2011 12:01 am

Well the start of Spring was last night marked by the vernal equinox... and the other planet (the Moon) in the Earth-Moon Double Planet System is at its closest approach to Earth for 20 years... so it'll look a little bigger than usual.

So do get out and have a look.

Regretfully the features on Fullish Moons get washed out by the full-on light of the Sun, so they're not a good time to see craters and other detail.

The perigee moon. I saw it rise as I was driving East toward the coast. It was profoundly beautiful ... huge and golden ... and the craters were quite visible from my perspective. Una bella luna!

It was huge tonight.... would urge all to get out in a few days time when the sunlight falls at an angle and causes shadows which bring out the details.

A small pair of binoculars will bring out many ,many features. Lean the binos against the corner of a wall to steady them, or on top of a broom stick.

Will be getting out my 8" later in the week.

(Bir... if you're in Oz, as ever... you have to do a hand-stand to get it the right way up)

... oooh we've got some music.

Pame Mia Volta Sto Feggari
Let's Go for a Walk to the Moon

Three days I was se-, three days I was separated from you
Threes nights I sta-, three nights I stay on my own
Like the mountains, that stand now in tears
When they get ra-, when they get rained (by) the heavens

Refrain/Chorus
Chase away the sorrow, young lad
Let's take a walk to the moon

How may I go out and, how may I go out and walk
His words, his words to remember?
With the moon how, oh how may I sing
With the moon, how may I be solaced
