Libya

Why are we bombing Libya?

I know very little about this small North African country.

Gaddafi is obviously a very bad man?

Who are the rebels, are they the good guys or are we being misled?

Many innocents dead on our behalf?

I think the British and US Government are crazy - total madness! Not that I support Gaddifi - he should go - but the Libyand should be the ones to do it

The Falklanders were INVADED by the Argentinians where as the Libyans , or a part of the Libyan people have not ,
however I can see where you are coming from and that your concern for the plight of the Libyan people is genuine .

How do you feel about the ROC objecting to British operations from Cyprus ?

Any help offered to those trying to get rid of a madman such as Gadaffi can never be enough. The involvement of "outsiders" is a blessing in disguise, made possible after the end of the cold war and it can only bring a better future in the long run, for many people. I think, with proper sanctioning by the UN and the ensuing legitimacy, such interventions are necessary and all dictators should heed the message.

Absolutely agree that dictators must be challenged and when possible deposed , as in the case of Mubarak , Marco etc.
The ME , you will agree I'm sure , is ruled mostly if not entirely by despots ,as it has been throughout Middle Eastern history .
What I find unpalatable is that the West has decided to take military action against the madman , a decision that was taken I believe by inexperienced political leaders following the UN resolution sanctioning a no flight zone .
I fully support any action taken by the West in pursuance of it's own security and to a lesser extend it's own interests but I'm damned if im to support the removal of one dictator who poses no threat to the West on the ideological humanitarian issue of protecting a section of the Libyan populace, I say a section since it is evident that Gaddafi still has the support of the army and other governmental bodies such as the police .
Th West has made a dreadful mistake in my opinion.

He's killing his OWN people, his job is to protect HIS people. Would you just sit and watch him do this just to avoid military action just because it's a section of Libyian's and not the majority?

Maybe we should have just left Yugoslavia and Kosovo alone as well then because it was a minority been slaughtered?
