Does religion contribute to world peace ?

Postby NEVERSAYNEVER » Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:26 am

From ancient to modern times religion has been at the forefront of human suffering caused by wars , both fighting functions firmly convinced their God was on their side. Good things have come from religion more so in the third world where religious organizations help the poor and needy. However on balance I feel that religion is one destructive element responsible for human suffering , divisive and spiteful . I believe , although I do not hold my breath , that sooner or later religion will be officially branded as destructive , manipulative and bad for your health

It should but it doesn't.
This is mainly because of the politicising of religion whereby rulers were given some sort of connection with god or God - they were either divine, semi-divine, descended from gods, spoke (or Speak) on behalf of God or otherwise have some sort of divine Mandate.

Personal faith is different except when one person tries to forcibly impose it on another.

Christianity sure does contribute to world peace. If you have any doubts just read the new Testament.

The last two posts are a good example where ideas cause conflagration. "I am right and YOU are wrong" attitude.

Just carrying on with typical misuse of handles by GCs. I am trying to blend in by showing the humour in it - Antifon. I forgot you have no sense of humour. Your posts are very morose.

Oi, ξάδελφε! I'll have to stick up for Uncle Fon here - surely he's a man, so auntie won't do. I have had a couple of interchanges with him that verge on humour, so, all in all, I rate him as a cut above the average bigoted nationalist.
