Cyprus, Turkish Regime Seize Christian School Books

Postby bill cobbett » Sat Mar 19, 2011 5:04 am

Religious books bound for the enclaved have been seized by the Illegal Regime, allegedly for non payment of illegal "duties".

This is "reported" by The Turkish Occupation Regime's mis-information office...

...."It was stated that a Greek Cypriot teacher, a director responsible for Religious Affairs in the Greek Cypriot Education and Culture Ministry and a priest tried to bring religious content books to the Turkish Cypriot side contrary to customs rules.

According to the written statement of Security Forces Commandership, it was noted ‘On 17 March, the director responsible for Religious Affairs in the Greek Cypriot Education and Culture Ministry, Michail Loizdis and Trimithunta Metropolit Priest Ionnides tried to pass to the Turkish Cypriot side from Beyarmudu checkpoint with 204 religious books in the car driven by George Elia, who has been working as an advisor at Dipkarpaz Greek Primary and Secondary School. They intended to take books to the school but they should have been applied to the customs that’s why, Turkish Cypriot customs officers did not give permission for the books but only let them to visit the school’. .... Books have to be rubber stamped by the relevant education authorities in the TRNC, you GCs are suffering from the "we think we can do what we wish syndrome" time to wake up and understand you have no authority over the TRNC.

"Books have to be rubber stamped"

Now that position really ties in nicely with Talat's statement "we are the true Europeans".

VP, like all good fanatics, is not getting it. The objection is not on an "us and them" comparison. Rubber stamping books is a European wide no-no. So if you are the "true Europeans", prove it.

Where is Bananiot when you need him?

Deniz has figure it out:

"All these could be used for positive propaganda but no...........just digging a deeper hole for themselves."

Precisely so, a clever person would have sent an official to hand over the books to the teacher, held a an impromptu "unplanned" press conference and photo op.

The actual treatment reminds us of Cyprus in the bloody 60s with all that flag waving and sill officiousness.

Must get Eroglu to read the book "How to make friends and influence people".

They interrupted Christmas liturgy in the occupied area and now they are banning religious books because they need to be rubber stamped!

If anyone still believes we are dealing with a western and European "administration" then I don't know what to say!

As subtle as Gaddafi himself. There is really no difference whatsoever!

Had Dale CArnegie been alive, we could have suggested he write a special one for Turkish consumption and in capital letters too.

The breaking up of the Xmas Day services, the incident at the Church of Agia Zoni a few days ago and now the seizure of Christian texts...

Each of these were a chance to show some tolerance, to reach out, to show some empathy with other CYs and goodwill for the settlement talks, but the chance that was jumped on in each of these was to show intolerance.

Could it be that orders have come down from on high to take these sorts of steps to scupper any chance of a CY to CY settlement ???

It is a case of, as they say in Union talk, 'Constructive Dismissal', here it is 'Constructive Ethnic Cleansing'. Both damnable.
