UN OKs 'all necessary measures,' no-fly zone to protect Libyans

The U.N. Security Council authorized a no-fly zone over Libya and called for Arab states and others to use "all necessary measures" to protect civilians from attacks by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

The resolution passed 10-0 with five abstentions, including Russia, China, Germany, India and Brazil.

The resolution establishes “a ban on all flights in the airspace of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya" while excluding an occupation force. It also calls for freezing the assets of the Libyan National Oil Corp. and the central bank because of links to Gadhafi.

Oh dear... first thing to do to enforce "no fly zones" is to take out AA and associated installations and C & C systems on the ground.... and we all should know how inaccurate not so smart bombs are.

Motives may be worthy, but the results could be, shall we say, messy?

During a visit to Germany late last month, Erdogan said a NATO intervention in Libya would be "unthinkable" and "absurd".

I wonder if he was thinking of all those Turkish investments in Libya...

Sounds like it is going to be 'Desert Storm' all over again.

UN is a farce seriously. They should turn their attention to Turkey vioaltion UN resolutions in Cy first.

It's just the god damn yanks again using the UN to print a licence to kill AGAIN.

Either UN resolutions are enforcable or not, otherwise STFU.

B25,

I think the world is now obliged to intervene in Libya. There is simply no choice in the matter.

Unfortunately, some people might get killed, but let's just hope they can put an end to Gadaffi's onslaught against his own people. It is a catch 22 situation.

Yes, there should be some intervention in Cyprus, but that won't happen because the UN, and other nations don't see a humanitarian reason to act at this point in time, which brings a lot of credence to GR's CNG War cries!

If you want the UN and foreign intervention in Cyprus, then sadly there needs to be a more urgent and compelling reason for them to come!

Im just wondering as to how many on this forume would volunteer to go to Libya and fight Gaddafi !!!
I for starters would not go anywhere near the palce ! What does anyone think will follow Gaddafi , a ...democratic leader ??? No way , another dictator another corrupt regime or even worse a theocratic lunatic !!!
The Arab people have many issues to address , let them deal with it !
