Bagging a PhD while wearing a vraka
A CYPRIOT man attended his Cambridge PhD graduating ceremony sporting traditional garb – baggy black pantaloons known as ‘a vraka’ – making for a curious sight among the formal gowns of his fellow graduands and going down in university history.
“My thesis topic [on the phonetics of the Greek Cypriot dialect] was immediately relevant to Cyprus… and this fact goes hand in hand with the way I chose to graduate,” said Spyros Armosti in a post on his website.
