Cyprus, European People's Party President Condemns Turkey

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I fully agree though that the TA shouldn't be there in the first place, therefore there's no legal validity to their rules.

Is this church the modernist concrete one not far from Smoky Joe's restaurant, near Cicero Str, or is it the older one at the fence that the Turks sometimes allow visitors into?

Eric, believe it is the one on the top of the thread

In any event Nikitas, who as as will know is a Varoshiotee, who lived in the area, assures us that the Church of Agia Zoni in question is outside the fenced-off area.... a Byzantine Church

Ta, Bill. I think you're right. When they feel like it they let visitors in and it's not behind the wire from recollection. In fact there's nothing to stop you walking right up to it if there's no goons around, which is probably what happened to these people when they were arrested.

I'm thinking of a third church (GO by the looks of it) which I saw near some tennis courts not very far from the beach. It looks 60s or 70s design - but takes a bit of effort to get to without being seen as it's quite exposed. Anyone know or remember it?

Perhaps Nikitas will fill us in a bit more later on your third modern church and on Mapko's Church which don't think is connected in ay way. .. or cymart or george100 perhaps.

Mapko,

Not either of the ones you mention, I'm afraid. The one I'm thinking of isn't too far from the hotel block that was hit by a missile from a Turkish jet and was burned out but is still standing near the beach.
