Burglaries in Larnaca!!

Postby moseley souls » Sun Mar 13, 2011 11:03 am

Hi everyone,

We don't post many topics on here but we feel that this is a post worth putting on.

Our family have a house in Larnaca just off the Dhekelia Road close to Oroklini. They arrived in Cyprus on Wednesday to find that they had been broken into. The thieves broke into the house by breaking down the front door which is a double glazed u.p.v.c. unit with a double lock.

Either side of the house had also been burgled. The goods which had been taken were a washing machine, mobile, gas fire, mirror, kettle, drill and household tools, dvd player even all of the food and drink that were left in the house as well as toiletries!! Our family are still finding items that have been stolen. Our neighbours have had appliances and electrical goods taken also.

The police have been informed and are doing the usual checks to find out who is accountable for this.. Seems that these thieves will steel anything like your kitchen appliances, furnishings and food (packet soups, tea coffee?) even washing powder for gods sake!! Obviously you're not going to leave valuables when you're not there so you think there isn't anything worth stealing and there's only so much you can do to make your house secure so we think we're going to have to go down the burglar alarm route !! Looks like burglaries are becoming more commonplace on the island, what a shame, It saddens us that somebody can break into your home and violate it.

I guess the point that we are trying to make is that you have to be more aware of your own surroundings as a white van was spotted and nobody seemed to question this. This post is really to let people know that thieves are on the island and for you to keep yourselves protected.

The nature of some things stolen, which have no retail/sale value - eg food and soap powder indicates this burglary is done by people with nothing - probably not asylum seekers - popular wisdom has it they are are living the high-life on state hand-outs so it may be a poor property developer who cannot meet his debts or banker who has found his mortgage portfolio is worth SFA, or some civil servant with only one pension.

Regardless of your financial position or status ... Nobody has the right to break into some one else's property and help themselves .. The topic is making people aware that thieves are operating in this area.

Very true - I have had several burgeries in the UK - lost mostly electricals - I understand a number of churches have been hit too.

If you own the place, live in it (with a shotgun!).

Also, what do you expect in Oroklini, it is full of Brits, Russians, Romanians, and about 5 Cypriots.

I heard tell of a family of those Black people living up near the older part of the village, and very well behaved they were too, by all accounts.

Nothing wrong with Nigerians mate, as long as you don't give 'em your bank details.

If you had actually read the topic it's not about peoples nationalities it's about the fact that thieves are in the area...

What reference does that have ???? Thieves are all over the island not just in Oroklini .. Do you read the newspapers ? This isn't a race debate.
