fFS  People this is former member of the European parliament Yiannakis Matsis..... NOT Marios Matsakis.

He is now in hospital in the occupied territories because he suffers from a weak heart. No doubt if he dies in there they will claim he's had cancer for years.

I have no idea who Mario Matsakis is,DT...And I only have GR's word on the quality of this other man's mind...Hasn't he tried these stints before??? Does he want to be a hero??? I am just telling him one sure way he can be a real, dead hero...He can get maximum coverage that way...don't you think?

You really are such a fool at times. Matsakis was not involved. These people were part of an EU delegation. They were "arrested" when the G/C members of the delegation went into a Church to pray. The only stunt was the stupid one pulled by the occupation regime of arresting them. Now crawl back into your hole and stop being such a silly bugger.

My information is that they were arrested in the 'forbidden zone' that is Varoshia...Is that not correct???

Do wish you'd listen Bir, they were taken prisoners in the churchyard of a church...

The party were taken captive in the church-yard of Agia Zoni, Famagusta.

A church which is in community use as some kind of rehearsal studio.

The church appears in travel guides to the Occupied Areas as a place to visit.

Here's a couple of refs from northern sites...

The idiot doesn't want to listen. Anything to support the occupation regime and his Taksim ideals!

Well, perhaps Bir and others will believe the Appeasing Daily Wail ( CY's Leading Daily Newspaper has finally caught up with the news)...

... which quotes one of the party, MEP Eleni Theocharous, as saying in a phone call to them ...

....“We headed off on a tour to check on the damages caused to churches in the occupied areas; to Rizokarpaso, Mesaoria, wherever we were allowed to go,” said Theocharous. “When we arrived outside the Ayia Zoni Church, four people from our delegation – Mr Matsis, Mr Afxentiou and two MEPs (Zasada and Walesa) entered the churchyard, where they were arrested. We waited for a while on the street; they were eventually taken in an unknown direction, we don’t know where.” ....

From a report in Hurriyet, who pick up on reports from a French Press Agency..

Loizos Afxentiou has been "tried" by a Kangaroo Turkish Army Military "Court", prevented from leaving the Occupied Areas, and is being forced to appear at a dodgy civil "court" on Monday.

Yiannakis Matsis continues to receive treatment in hospital pending being forced to appear before the same Illegal Turkish Military "Court".

Perhaps a certain publication should be renamed the Cyprus Snail: it was after all very slow in producing the story , i.e. "after all": perhaps they had not had a chance to verify their sources i.e. read other papers.

I do however agree that for the Occupying forces and their puppets in the Psuedo state it is a bit of a Fubar - not the best example of how to win friends and influence people who matter in the EU.

The fact that the victims have been dragged before a Turkish Military court really will show that the so called TRNC is a little more than a sham.

on wot basis is it a 'forbidden zone'? my information is that it's because an occupying foreign army keeps the residents of the city out. is that not correct?

It fits into a pattern of preventing and disrupting church services in the north, now extending to entering a church! This must be the famous Islamic tolerance we keep hearing about...
