Aegean - New Flights LHR - LCA

Postby bill cobbett » Fri Mar 11, 2011 3:30 am

The CY Republic of North London is pleased to announce new flights operating from the CY Capital here to our provincial centre at LCA ....

(Reuters) - Greece's Aegean Airlines (AGNr.AT) will launch flights from Cyprus to London Heathrow at the end of this month, providing more competition for cash-strapped local carrier Cyprus Airways CAIR.CY.

Aegean will offer daily flights to Heathrow from March 27, and plans to add and increase the frequency of flights from Cyprus to Greek destinations, Aegean's vice chairman Eftyhios Vassilakis said.

The national carrier is supported by all - whether they fly or not - many millions of tax payers money has been poured in to CY overv the years.

The trouble with CY is that it is not run for the benefit of either the customers or the country, but the staff, where I understand that many are on wages that they could not earn doing a similar anywhere else in the aviation business: there are also probably too many jobs for the boys, i.e. politicaly motivated appointments.

I say Privitise it completely.

"National Carrier" a term invented to rouse the patriotic sentiments of the cretins who would then make it a patriotic duty of theirs to keep the national so called carrier alive at all costs.

Baghdatis, with the Cyprus flag on his t-shirt, is a more efficient national carrier and of course miles cheaper. Unless we nationalise him too.

QANTAS is our national carrier and yet it was privatized long ago and has always been profitable.

Even if CyAir is privatized, and I believe it should be, where the private stakeholders will put in place some efficiency driven measures as well as cull the overstaffed and spoilt workforce, it will still be CyAir, the island's flagship national carrier representing Cyprus as does QANTAS for Australia and Singapore Airlines for Singapore and so on...

As for Baghdatis, he has done more for Cyprus than all of our politicians put together. Much loved and respected in Australia, he has put Cyprus on the the map, and that is priceless.

CyAir does the same in Europe and Middle East, and it is my view, that once a privatized CyAir is rationalized and made profitable, then it should open new routes into Asia, North America and Australia. It should have taken over Olympic Airway's twice a week service to Melbourne and Sydney.

Personally, I think the RoC should cull teacher numbers and slash spending to the education and health systems!!!

The new AA route to LHR is good news. Just checked out the web-site and prices seem competitive.

Anything to avoid the EJ cattle run!

I think, thinking is not your strong faculty Paphitis. But, I get your drift. If you have an issue with some forumers it is childish to take it out on the social aspects of the society.

P.S. What should we do with the bananas we save from the culling of education and health sectors?
