If the RoC had any sense (as if) they would form a commercial partnership in this scheme and be a partner with favourable status rather than a bystander who will just end up as a cash customer, paying for water at the going rate.

don't you worry you pretty little head about the roc...just worry when the attention looking settlers turn their attention on you scummy...hope you stocked up on lipstick and knee pads...

I'm not worried about RoC...if you can't see the advantage of being a partner rather than a customer, you deserve all you get (or don't get, in the case of TR water). You just keep tankering it from GR or building desal plants - really cost effective ways of getting water, not.

why worry then fuss then scummy?...you want someone to subsidize the cost?...meaning your cost?...well fuck off...you gonna and you gonna pay dearly for every liter that comes from turkey...

try and answer the questions i raised prior to asking the why and the suggestions..but .once a scummie always a scummie...

To answer your questions - of course it won't be free - is it free now? Who will own it? - well at first TR will own it - will it be expensive? if it's more expensive than water costs now it will struggle to sell. If we sell the excess to RoC, our water will be subsidized.
They do say that the next war will be fought over water - between those that have it and those that don't.
How about you give us gas, we give you water?

how much gas do you want, i just farted...

how much water do you want, i need to piss....

but noone asked for any water deal in the first place scummie...keep your piss, summer is around the corner...you'll need it...

So would you have been an investor in Nazi London waterworks had they invaded and occupied England in WWII?

A ground-breaking ceremony for the Alakopru Dam, part of a project to carry potable and irrigation water from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), will take place in Anamur town of Turkey's southern province of Mersin on today.

Water from the Alakopru Dam will be carried to the TRNC in pipes placed under water. 75 million cubic meters of water will be carried to the TRNC per year under the project.

The construction of the dam in Anamur Turkey would be completed over the next 4 years while work on expanding the Gecitköy reservoir in the TRNC would begin next year.

I was under the impression, that the water from Turkey was arriving to the north in the next year or so, but it turns out, they need to build a damn first in Turkey that will take 4 years, and most probably another 4 years to fill it before a drop of water is sent to the north through some piping system that will require a lot of electricity to pump the water along the minimum 60 miles/100 km to reach the north. So, not only the price of water will go up in the north, but also the price of electricity due to shortages. But Turkey is also planning sending electricity to the north also once they build their Nuclear Power plant sometime in the future.

Now, an Olympic size swimming pool (50m x25m) holds roughly 88,000 cubic meters of water, which means, 75 million cubic meters of water Turkey intends to send to the north will be approximately 852 Olympic size swimming pools of water. Is that really a lot.? It doesn't sound like a lot of water to warrant spending about the quoted $500 million USD as the initial cost to try and bring it to the north, not counting the running cost. Which means, that it will cost about $587,000 USD per swimming pool (88,000 cubic meters) or $6.5 USD per cubic meter. That is going to be one expensive water. One assumes that the cost will go down with time if all goes well , like the pipe does not break under the sea or take in salt water along the way. Well, lets wait and see. Personally I think this is just a another pipe dream by Turkey and the "trnc".

Major mistake with the above calculations.

It is 88,000 cubic feet of water and not 88,000 cubic meters of water in a Olympic size pool (50mx25mx2m) The correct figure is 2,500 cubic meters of water, which changes the above figures considerably. We are now talking about 30,000 Olympic size pools of water, which is considerably more than 852 pools of water. I knew something just didn't make sense, and it turns out, it was my calculations.

An easy mistake to make.
How do the rest of the figures stack up? i.e. cost per tonne, etc?

A groundbreaking foundation laying ceremony for the Alakopru Dam, part of the project to carry potable and irrigation water from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus took place yesterday.

The TRNC was represented at the highest level at the ceremony with President Derviş Eroğlu and Prime Minister İrsen Küçük.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish Minister of State in Charge of Cyprus Affairs Cemil Çiçek were also present at the ceremony.

A $450 million intergovernmental framework agreement for the Life Water project was signed in July of 2010. The water transfer project between Turkey and the TRNC envisages the transport of water via pipes from the Alaköprü Dam to be constructed on the Dragon River in Anamur. The water will be transferred to the Geçitköy Dam near Girne (Kyrenia) in the TRNC. The project, which is envisioned to be completed in four years, will be funded by Turkey.

The ceremony in Anamur, a town of the Mediterranean province of Mersin, to celebrate the laying of the foundation of the Alaköprü Dam came as a sign of solidarity between the Turkish and TRNC leadership since it took place only days after thousands of Turkish Cypriots marched last week against Ankara-inspired spending cuts as mounting dissent strained ties with Turkey and threatened to affect reunification talks with Greek Cypriots.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Turkish Minister of State Cemil Çiçek said that today was a historical day for the TRNC.

“This project will further strengthen the strong bonds of brotherhood that exists between the two countries” said Çiçek adding the support given by Turkey was aimed at raising the happiness and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriots.

Addressing the ceremony next, TRNC Prime Minister İrsen Küçük expressed his happiness and excitement from taking part in such an honorable event.

Thanking Turkey for its endless support to the TRNC, Küçük said that no one will be successful in damaging the strong relationship that exists between the two countries.

“We are inseparable like finger and nail” he added.

Also speaking the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that the project was the first of its kind in the world, both in size and method.

“The TRNC is our jewel. We have always been by the side of the TC's and we shall continue to do so” said Erdoğan, adding that the Turkish government was working to solve the difficulties faced by the Turkish Cypriots.

TRNC President Derviş Eroğlu for his part too underlined the strong bond that existed between Turkey and the TRNC.

He said that the project to carry water would be a new addition to the many bridges that existed between the two peoples.

Erdogan, is selling you fart-gas just to keep you off the streets…

He’s not stupid enough to waste billions on a territory he has to abandon soon!

Doesn't have to be the RoC gov that signs, in fact it needs to be a private RoC company that will part finance the project. Where their funds come from is not an issue.
