Do any of you keyboard warriors, in the event of Turkey going to war against their neighbor Greece; would the Greeks get to Istanbul first or the TA get to Athens first? I know its a hypothetical question, but I heard on some sites that Turkey would reach Athens in three and a half days if not three. Personally I think this is a bit far fetched, but there seems a lot of experience out there, any serious comments. (please exclude any help from the RoC, that would put Turkey at a great disadvantage.IMO   )

Can you imagine the Moon and Crescent flying over the Parthenon once again? Perhaps you guys can even paint some Graffiti on Lycavitos.

Then VP, and Zan can really be proud about being a Turk!

What is Turkey waiting for?

I think Turkey should wait until Greece becomes profitable again and not have a 300 Billion debt, or else Turkey will end up owning all that debt, on top of the debt she already owns plus the money she sends to the "ungrateful" in the "trnc". It will be self defeating proposition for Turkey to take over Greece now or 3 days later.!

Goodness me!

That is a lot of statues that Turkey will need to make in order to pay this 300 Billion Dollar debt!

I wonder how many street corners there are in Athens. There must be a hell of a lot!

The Turks should think about all the glory!

In the end, the debts of Greece will own Turkey.

Who says that Greece did not have a Plan "B" by getting in debt deliberately, just to make Greece less attractive to be conquered by anyone, specially by Turkey, whose population by 60% can't even afford to eat meat anymore.!

Well, I wonder what 60% of the population think about their nation's occupation of Cyprus whilst they can't afford to buy basics such as meat, and imagine what these poor people think of the TCs!!!!

How come Turkey never picks a fight with Iran?

How come Turkey has never attempted to invade and occupy little Georgia?

How come Turkey only decided to attack Iraqi Kurds AFTER Saddam was toppled and Iraq was in total disarray? Were those Kurds not a problem before?

But Turkey is more than happy to pick fights with Greece, Cyprus and Armenia!

The political situation had to be perfect for an excuse to invade. The junta in Greece was overthrown in 71, with ioannides being placed as their leader....not being a fan of the junta, its my opinion that papadopoulos would not have fallen for anglo/nato's farce to create a coup in cyprus.

Even the movements of the NG pre invasion shows complacency with the invaders.....At the point of invasion the antitank regiment at lampousa that was to defend five mile and six mile was moved to the other side of the island. Artillery units were also moved.......At the first day of the coup a fire was lit on top of the pentadaktylos mts. which in a direct line down to the sea would mark the invaders at five mile.....Another key point is that at the time of papadopoulous ouster in 71, eoka b was organized on cyprus and grivas as its head, was snuck back onto the island to create chaos among the Greek cyps. to the point where Turkey was invading and Greek cyps were still shooting at each other in Kyrenia. Without the full support of Nato England the usa and Kissinger, turkey would not have moved an inch....Turkey invaded Cyprus and was guaranteed success....

A sad miscalculation on a grand scale. So you do believe in the 'conspiracy' theory. Sad to say that 'wars' are lost because of 'miscalculations' and the 'window of opportunity'. I am not mocking anyone here, but the Cypriots had no chance. Were any 'court martials' held in Cyprus as a result of all these decisions to leave the back door open? Whose decision was it?

Brothers with Iran.

Friends with Russia (trade and all that)

Turkey has had problems with Kurds since the inception of the republic in 1923. There were a few rebellions which were suppressed since then. The Kurds later became another headache after receiving support from Greece and Armenians.

Turkeys back door is 'secure', what it is doing now is securing the southern flanks for Nato and the UK.

Funny that tiny Cyprus is such a 'fly in the ointment'.

Is it the belief of most GC's on cf, that the then Greek Junta led Greek Gov did not use these submarines because of USA pressure (pre-planned Partition and all that). Yet we know for a fact that a few planes loaded with elite troops did in fact land and some shot down. Did the Junta 'disobey' orders from USA in spite of the 'Conspiracy theory' - if true? Something isnt right here. Or was there a major split amongst Junta members?

Deniz nobody inform the troops around Nicosia airport that those planes where greek the information came later when it was too late. Yes there was a split at that time among the officers (honest ones).

but at that night some "patriots" start shooting those planes from a building
very near to my house and my father was shouting to them to stop saying that those must be greek planes because their landing lights and gear was on .
(as i remember those plans where flying so low that night that you could "touch them")

Landing Gear and Landing Lights should have been a dead giveaway that these aircraft were friendlies.

Turkish aircraft would not be flying over Nicosia with their Landings Lights, Nav Lights or Anti Collision Beacon on.

In fact, I am surprised that the HAF had their lights on to begin with, but the Greek Military should have informed the CNG and ELDYK that they will be arriving.

What i wrote above was not a hear say pafitis i was an eye witness the noratlas was above strovolos apx 6-7 km away from the airport and everything was lit like a christmas tree and gear down ,they inform CNG but the msg to the A/A went too late .

??? 500 sorties over what period of time? :? And why would that be? :?

And don’t assume they’re the only answer to the TAF the CNG has.

Also, don’t confuse the TAF with the USAF!

The TAF has some 200+ F16s. Their pilots are very well trained and I would say that they are as good as any.

500 sorties can be completed in a very short period of time. We are talking about very short turn arounds here.

Their limiting factor is not their hardware but Pilots. There is only so much you can get out of a pilot and I estimate that they have about 1.5 suitably trained pilots per F16.

And I don't think that losing half a dozen jets is going to be a real big deal. Sure they won't like it, but they will live with it.

The pilots will more than likely survive, get captured and the RoC is obligated to abide by the Geneva Convention. You would not be allowed to lynch them in this day and age, because you wouldn't get away with it.

Absolute correct statement-under one condition- TAF to fly again alone in Cyprus air space- I am not sure that tjhis will be the case this time.!!

This we know very well in Athens.

All souvlas are always ready to welcome Turkish army.
And soulvas will start from Thrace- just as pre-celebrations.

Artillery against EOKA B and the Makarios opponents? They were mad!! to remove them. Why were they in the first place. They expected an invasion from the early days of 1964?
