The National Guard of Cyprus… (before and after)

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby wyoming cowboy » Tue Mar 08, 2011 4:24 am

If noone knows the topographical area of Karavas and Agios Giorgios, if those
Artillery units were on Pentadaktylos and the anti tank units in their positions the Turks would have left their brethren that survived the landing on these two beaches, and hightailed it back to Mersin, Even someone with a rifle on top of the hill overlooking six mile beach which is less then 100 metres away could of easily taken out a company of turks.....

Is it the belief of most GC's on cf, that the then Greek Junta led Greek Gov did not use these submarines because of USA pressure (pre-planned Partition and all that). Yet we know for a fact that a few planes loaded with elite troops did in fact land and some shot down. Did the Junta 'disobey' orders from USA in spite of the 'Conspiracy theory' - if true? Something isnt right here. Or was there a major split amongst Junta members?

Deniz nobody inform the troops around Nicosia airport that those planes where greek the information came later when it was too late. Yes there was a split at that time among the officers (honest ones).

but at that night some "patriots" start shooting those planes from a building
very near to my house and my father was shouting to them to stop saying that those must be greek planes because their landing lights and gear was on .
(as i remember those plans where flying so low that night that you could "touch them")

Landing Gear and Landing Lights should have been a dead giveaway that these aircraft were friendlies.

Turkish aircraft would not be flying over Nicosia with their Landings Lights, Nav Lights or Anti Collision Beacon on.

In fact, I am surprised that the HAF had their lights on to begin with, but the Greek Military should have informed the CNG and ELDYK that they will be arriving.

Those Noratlas that left Crete that night were supposed to be followed by Dakotas freight planes that were not allowed to take off. The Noratlas flew so low from Crete to Cyprus that they almost hit an American Aircraft carrier, that didnt even pick them up on its radar...They flew over the Brit bases and the Brits didnt know who they were, until they saw the Greek military symbol. It took brains and lots of courage for those Greeks to do what they did. And their lights werent turned on until they approached Nicosia airport.

I think Turkey should give it a go!

She might have a shot at reaching Athens in 3 days! Just attack the Hellenic Navy in the Aegean and let's see what will come off it!

So, when is this war going to start?

They shouldn't have been turned on even as they were on approach for landing!

Not with enemy troops in the vicinity!

Do any of you keyboard warriors, in the event of Turkey going to war against their neighbor Greece; would the Greeks get to Istanbul first or the TA get to Athens first? I know its a hypothetical question, but I heard on some sites that Turkey would reach Athens in three and a half days if not three. Personally I think this is a bit far fetched, but there seems a lot of experience out there, any serious comments. (please exclude any help from the RoC, that would put Turkey at a great disadvantage.IMO   )

Can you imagine the Moon and Crescent flying over the Parthenon once again? Perhaps you guys can even paint some Graffiti on Lycavitos.

Then VP, and Zan can really be proud about being a Turk!

What is Turkey waiting for?

They can even erect hundreds of busts of Mustafa all over Athens and at every corner!

Can you imagine how proud Attaturk would have been?

I think Turkey should wait until Greece becomes profitable again and not have a 300 Billion debt, or else Turkey will end up owning all that debt, on top of the debt she already owns plus the money she sends to the "ungrateful" in the "trnc". It will be self defeating proposition for Turkey to take over Greece now or 3 days later.!

Goodness me!

That is a lot of statues that Turkey will need to make in order to pay this 300 Billion Dollar debt!

I wonder how many street corners there are in Athens. There must be a hell of a lot!

The Turks should think about all the glory!

In the end, the debts of Greece will own Turkey.

Who says that Greece did not have a Plan "B" by getting in debt deliberately, just to make Greece less attractive to be conquered by anyone, specially by Turkey, whose population by 60% can't even afford to eat meat anymore.!
