How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Do any of you keyboard warriors, in the event of Turkey going to war against their neighbor Greece; would the Greeks get to Istanbul first or the TA get to Athens first? I know its a hypothetical question, but I heard on some sites that Turkey would reach Athens in three and a half days if not three. Personally I think this is a bit far fetched, but there seems a lot of experience out there, any serious comments. (please exclude any help from the RoC, that would put Turkey at a great disadvantage.IMO   )

dunno... but this is how i will dispose of the deluded dark knight, the "invincible" viewpoint...

Good one.

No serious answers then? I think all Turkey will unite like the various GC factions did in Cyprus 1974. (why has my tongue got stuck in my cheek?)

If it took Turkey a fortnight to go from Kyrenia to Nicosia (20Km) against the leftovers of a ragtag coup militia in 1974, what makes you think she can reach Athens in 3 hours today?

Read again and carefully this time.

About the TA in Cyprus, if you remember the TA were static for a time waiting for a ceasefire and talks for a ceasefire. When nothing happened then they went on the move again - to the detriment of the whole population of Cyprus.

No more red herrings please.

Dont forget there is a standing army around Adrianople/Edirne with thousands of tans. The invasion army of 1974 was a quickly improvised invasion force.

I’ve always felt that Turkey is the sort of country that would CRUMBLE when faced with a well organized and tenacious resistance, because she only seems comfortable and “gutsy” when she has an overwhelming numerical advantage to boost her confidence.

Wasn’t that always the Ottoman way? Throughout history, they were quite happy to lose say 100,000 for the sake of “conquering” 20,000!

That may be true, but it also depends on whether they are defending the homeland or the case of the defence of Plevna/Pleven by Osman Pasha, or more recently Gallipoli.

During an offensive operation you never know which way the 'effort' will go.

My initial question was (perhaps it was not put clearly) would the TA reach Athens before the Helenic army reach Istanbul? Personally I would not like to see these two 'friendly' neighbors knock each other out, but there are those that do.

I wouldn’t put my money on Greece, NOT because they lack military manpower or hardware but because successive DEFEATIST governments (that have ultimately turned Greece into the pauper of Europe) have broken the fighting spirit of the average Greek citizen, by getting sucked in by Turkish peasant bravado maneuvers that were designed to test and easily demoralize such incompetent fools!

What Greece needs is balls, and what Turkey needs is someone to expose her pretend balls!

First of all noone can say that the turk invasion of cyprus was NOT preplanned. It is obvious that the planning began in the late 60's early 70's, first with turkey's accumulating 100 landing vessels which she didnt have in 67. The political situation had to be perfect for an excuse to invade. The junta in Greece was overthrown in 71, with ioannides being placed as their leader....not being a fan of the junta, its my opinion that papadopoulos would not have fallen for anglo/nato's farce to create a coup in cyprus.

Even the movements of the NG pre invasion shows complacency with the invaders.....At the point of invasion the antitank regiment at lampousa that was to defend five mile and six mile was moved to the other side of the island. Artillery units were also moved.......At the first day of the coup a fire was lit on top of the pentadaktylos mts. which in a direct line down to the sea would mark the invaders at five mile.....Another key point is that at the time of papadopoulous ouster in 71, eoka b was organized on cyprus and grivas as its head, was snuck back onto the island to create chaos among the Greek cyps. to the point where Turkey was invading and Greek cyps were still shooting at each other in Kyrenia. Without the full support of Nato England the usa and Kissinger, turkey would not have moved an inch....Turkey invaded Cyprus and was guaranteed success....
