Petrol Prices!! but how much petrol do we actually get?

I have been hearing the odd rumour that some petrol stations are topping up with water... this is a rumour.. as I do not have any proof, but I did want to ask if anyone else had heard this and is it the norm?

Happened to me many, many years ago here in GB.

Had a very nice, sporty Capri .... which had to get to a garage and had to get a tank-ful of petrol contaminated with water dumped .... which was not cheap.

(Believe it's standard practice for petrol suppliers to put water in their storage tanks to keep the petrol at the top, without air getting in to the tanks... is this right??????)

Thankyou Bill, that may explain it because it's not the first time I've heard this my father-in-law had said they did and he has been dead for 15 years & now a young guy that works at a petrol station has said that after the tanker has left the boss puts the water hose in and tops up...

If you suspect a specific gas station then report them. Or you could put a bit of petrol in a container and send it for analysis. With gas stations open 24h and clients arriving at any time I doubt many would risk using a water hose.

you only have to let the petrol stand and if there is any water it will separate out.
