Turkish Cypriots stage massive demonstration 02.03.2011

Turkish Cypriots today 02.03.2011 staged a demonstration more massive than the one held on 28.01.2011, with an attendance this morning of between 50,000 and 70,000 people - this represents the equivalent of 50 MILLION Egyptians protesting at Tahir Square (if one takes population numbers in proportion).

But of course the mainstream media ... won't mention THIS demonstration! Any comments regarding the mainstream media's non-coverage of Turkish Cypriot MASSIVE demonstrations against Turkey? !

Jerusalem Post...

NICOSIA - Thousands of Turkish Cypriots marched on Wednesday against Ankara-inspired spending cuts as mounting dissent strained ties with Turkey and threatened to hit reunification talks with Greek Cypriots.

More than 25,000 protesters, angry about what they believe are efforts by Turkey to exert more control over the isolated statelet, gathered at Inonu Square inside ancient Venetian walls in the city's northern Turkish section in what is believed to be one of the largest demonstrations ever in North Cyprus.

Many waved banners reading, "This is our country, let's run it ourselves" and "Take your hands off Turkish Cypriots."

They said an economic austerity package blamed on Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan erodes their ability to govern themselves effectively.

Associated Press...

Turkish Cypriot opposition parties, unions, hold new protest over austerity measures
By The Associated Press (CP) – 5 hours ago
NICOSIA, Cyprus — Turkish Cypriot opposition parties and unions are holding a new protest in divided Cyprus' breakaway north against an austerity package they say Turkey has unfairly foisted on them.
Organizers resent deep private and state sector salary cuts. They also say they feel caught in their tiny enclave between an overbearing Ankara and the internationally recognized Greek Cypriot government they don't trust.
Wednesday's protest comes in the wake of a rally last month that badly strained relations between the 260,000 Turkish Cypriots and the Turkish government, after demonstrators displayed banners deemed insulting and anti-Turkish.
Cyprus was split in 1974 when Turkey invaded after a coup by supporters of union with Greece.
The north is only recognized by Turkey, which maintains some 35,000 troops there.

So why fly the flag od the Republic and with whom are you going to re-unify with???

To ask a stupid question, but why do we even give a F, what the hell these people are doing anyway???

They made their beds, now they can lie in them, seriously. Why?

If I thought for one moment, that by giving support that they would be interested to live like the rest of us without racist decriminatory demands, I would be on that Line with them, but hey do you know what, they want our support to get them out of turkeys clutches so they can crap all over us. No ta!

You could have every T/C on the march and it won't get any media coverage outside of Cyprus unless there is violence. I'm sorry but a peaceful march won't bring the world media's attention to any grievances you feel.

People will only become interested in you if you are being beaten up or shot at. A pleasant walk in the Sun hardly creates the impression that your survival is at stake.

We know that the TCs are outnumbered by Turkish peasants, so what are you going to do about it?
