no one has been convicted yet - innocent till proven guilty, etc., but let just see if any state prosecutors start living a lifestyle normally beyond their means and then who with a rich and/or influential relative gets off .....

Well, reading further on this website I discovered this:

DEFINITION: Crime statistics are often better indicators of prevalence of law enforcement and willingness to report crime, than actual prevalence. Sounds to me that your next door neighbour is on the phone ratting you out to the police every day...

Also see what is considered crime here (same website, different page):
http://www.nationmaster.com/cat/Crime-crime

Conclusion = Cypriots are guilty as charged. Not sure if the stats are taken from the north of the island as well...

The page displayed shows convictions per capita, not crimes per capita. You can thank all the British tourists for this.

The ones we had when these statistics were compiled. We should have a much better showing in the future.

Nationmaster is a Wiki copycat; anyone can submit articles. You should see some of the "TRNC" entries in there!

You have a good point there. All census/polls/info carried out in the summer months is null and void.

Click onto 'Tourism arrivals from country of usual residence' and it gives the falling figures of British Tourists in the last 10 years and the actual figures from 1980 to last year. Brit arrivals are now near what they were in 1993.

It shows all nationalities that have or are visiting Cyprus on holiday and may be a reason in higher crime figures imo
