MediterraneanFurthermore, as Turkey continues to gravitate toward Iran, expect tension between Europe and Turkey over control of Cyprus to intensify. The island nation is a member of the European Union, but over a third of it is controlled by Turkey and considers itself a separate Turkish republic.
Europe recognizes Cyprus’s strategic position—at the crossroads of the Aegean and Mediterranean, and adjacent to the volatile Middle East—and its crucial role in past European ventures into the Mideast and North Africa.
As Turkey slides toward Iran, expect Europe to step up efforts to reclaim the whole of Cyprus!

just wondering if there are any journo mistakes...
Or expect Turkey to step up efforts to reclaim the whole of Cyprus? Could Cyprus end up like Cuba, with, instead of a US base (Guantanamo Bay), a UK base(s) and the rest of the island in Turkish hands?
If it couldn't happen in 1974, it will never happen today. More likely that the British Bases would remain in Cyprus and the rest of the island will remain EU territory without Turkey's footprints in Cyprus. Why do you think Turkey got rid off all the GCs from the north for, so to prevent any kind of guerrilla activities. If Turkey were to take over the whole island, how do you expect them to prevent EOKA-C from taking place.? Turkey will end up the same way as the British did. At least the British got bases in Cyprus, just because Cyprus is so far from the UK, but what good is Turkey having a bases in Cyprus when it would only be 60 miles from Turkey. Totally illogical and totally waste of Turkish soldiers lives lost in trying to remain on the island and having complete control over it, assuming of course, that the EU will just stand by and let Turkey do as she wishes in Cyprus.
