Help re WiFi internet radio please!

Postby BerkshireScouse » Mon Feb 28, 2011 5:33 pm

Hi

I am calling to ask if anyone has been encountering the same problems that I have in trying to set up a WiFi internet radio.

Having followed the instructions in the accompanying manual, I reached a certain point beyond which I could not proceed, because the network to which I was trying to connect is using one of the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or WiFi Protected Access (WPA) encryption systems. As I do not have the correct WEP/WPA key to enable me to proceed further, I contacted Cytanet (i.e. the provider of my router) and asked them to provide me with this, but they insisted I had to contact the manufacturer of my router.

This I did (my router is an ECI B-Focus Multiport 342+), but despite using the IP address quoted in the manual (10.0.0.138), I was unable to establish any kind of connection. I’ve also accessed several techie/forum sites via Google & used many of the IP addresses suggested within, but with still no joy.

Now I’ve come across a useful link which might assist me in my problem (http://ioannis.mpsounds.net/blog/2006/0 ... on-manual/), but as it is of a rather technical nature, I thought I could see if I could obtain help of a less specialised nature elsewhere before following the instructions within. Is there anyone who has purchased an internet radio, who’s encountered the problems I have, but who has still succeeded in establishing connectivity? If so, I would be very grateful for your assistance.

Alternatively – should I just take my query to a specialist computer engineer, or could anyone recommend any local company or web resources which may help me resolve this problem?

I just hope that the money I’ve spent on my shiny new internet radio isn’t money down the drain! I find it hard to believe that it won’t work solely for want of something which really shouldn’t be too difficult to find, or am I just being naïve?

Many thanks in anticipation.

If you are trying to connect to your own broadband router via WiFi you must surely have set the encryption yourself...?

In order to change the encryption you will need to connect a PC to the router and use the administration menu...

If you don't want to bother with the instructions given in the link you posted then just get a cheap wifi router or access point for less than 50 euro.

Could it be that its IP address is different? You could check it this way:
1) Open a "DOS window"
2) Type IPCONFIG /ALL and press <ENTER>
3) Look for the section of your Wireless NIC and check the address of its Standard Gateway.

You went and bought a what?

The solution is to chuck it in the bin and just use your laptop.

And btw, follow the same advice for every other gadget you bought.

If he has problems connecting with WiFi he will also have the same problems with a laptop. So that will not solve his problem. And an Internet radio can be a lot better and convenient than a laptop for the specific task.

Sorry, I should’ve been more precise…

1. Chuck the radio shit in the bin.
2. Go tell the network admin you want access.

PS: For email, DO NOT be tempted to buy an electronic pigeon due to be released on the market soon!
