France, Germany threaten Libya with EU sanctions

(AP) – 3 hours ago

PARIS (AP) — France and Germany threatened to hit Libya with EU sanctions for Moammar Gadhafi's fierce crackdown on protesters, while the European Union said the violence in Libya could constitute "crimes against humanity" and urged an independent probe into it.

"The continuing brutal and bloody repression against the Libyan civilian population is revolting," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Wednesday, raising the possibility of cutting all economic and business ties between the EU and Libya. "The international community cannot remain a spectator to these massive violations of human rights."

I wonder if the RoC will suggest the same against Turkey when they will lead the EU next year.?

Perhaps is the reason why Bagis is making threats toward the RoC recently, that it will be the RoC's worst nightmare if Turkey did not make it into the EU.!

Arab League bans Libya

In the face of Libya's brutal response to demonstrations, the Arab League presses for a swift end to the violence and calls for the legitimate demands of Libyans to be met

The Arab League Council issued a strong condemnation of Libya at an emergency meeting held by the Arab League Council to discuss the bloody crackdown by authorities of popular demonstrations in Libyan cities, including the capital Tripoli.

EU arms to Libya: fresh details emerge

Malta has denied any responsibility for a massive shipment of Italian-made guns to Libya that went through its port in 2009. Meanwhile, video footage on YouTube appears to show Belgian-made weapons currently being used by Gaddafi mercenaries.

The Maltese foreign ministry has rejected EU data saying that it exported €79.7 million worth of "smooth-bore weapons with a calibre of less than 20mm, other arms and automatic weapons with a calibre of 12.7 mm (calibre 0.50 inches) or less and accessories" to Libya two years ago.
