This may come back to haunt you later as I have the memory of an elephant when it comes to matters pertaining to Cyprus!

Just for you, GR.

The son of a REGIONAL COMMANDER has no place to come and tell people here today (people he doesn’t even know) that they are/were the Cyprus problem!

If I was in his place I’d feel a little ashamed today and just SHUT UP!

Perhaps DOUBLE STANDARDS is a problem you Turks have always had and never noticed…

In a court of law such a self confession is damning enough to invoke an investigation into the family’s background. The circumstantial evidence would be deafening!

You change the tune but the end result is still the same - cacophonous as usual.

Unfortunately, the truth can sometimes be a cacophony Deniz…

GR, have you been drinking? YOU ACCUSED BIR OF RESPONSIBILITY. Oh, I give up on you.

There is no one as blind as he who refuses to see,as I always say...

Funny how GR quotes something I wrote, and totally ignores the context in which those events took place, and all the other comments I've made on the subject since 2007...

I have explained many things since, but our GR just keeps on quoting that one post, and thinks he is condeming me...In case DTA or others have missed or forgotten my others posts on the subject of the TMT and my father's involvement,I will make a quick summary...

When the events I described took place I was 6-7 years old...I plead guilty your honour!!! :)

As a Head Master in a school in a reasonably large TC village in the Paphos region my father simply had no choice but to be the organiser and later on the regional commander for that area...The TMT was formed to protect the TCs from what we thought was the inevitable massacre attempts by the GCs...The EOKA and the ENOSIS dream had put the fear of death in every one of us,nd it was simply a desperate attempt to organise some sort of self-defence...

All my father's activities were concentrated on preparing the area for defence...The primitive( and some not so primitive) weapons he managed to acquire were what stood between us and wholesale destruction of our homes and villages, this we all believed in...During the years my father was in charge of the local TMT (1957-59) not one bullet was fired at any GC...I have no idea what would've happened if we didnt let the GCs know we were ready and waiting for them, but the preventative measures were enough to keep the peace in our area...

By 1960 my father was no longer active in the TMT,and by 1963 he was allowed to resign,in extraordinary circumstances I have described elsewhere...And we left Cyprus for Australia in February,1969...

Like all resistance organisations the TMT was only as good as the people who run it,and what happened to it once its primary purpose (safeguarding the TC community) was fulfilled was also inevitable...My father is not in the least responsible for the excesses of the TMT,and I am proud of his role and my little efforts to support him in safeguarding those weapons...If that makes me a terrorist,so be it...

GR has no idea how frightful the conditions were for the TCs during those times, and the demonisation of the TMT is fully achieved in his mind...He refuses to see that the TMT initially was as much of a freedomfighting organisation for the TCs as the original EOKA was for the GCs...He prefers to see things as black and white, the EOKA all good and the TMT all bad...This is the curse of the Cypriots...Glorifying your own side and demonising the other...I have tried in the past to admit the mistakes of my own side, and to show empathy and compassion for the GC suffering .My gesture was not reciprocated, and I could not keep silent while my admissions and acknowledgements of the TC wrongs were used as a big stick to beat up my own people...One sided empathy and compassion and understanding are not enough to bring us to a just and lasting solution...That is why I now try to tell all who might listen that there are two sides to every dispute, and both sides must learn to put themselves in the other's shoes if we are to find a way out of this mess...Accusing a 7 years old child and his long dead father (who only did what he thought was his duty to protect his community for 2 brief years in the 50s) of active protagonism in the Cyprus conflict is drawing a very long and crooked bow...

Dear God! An apologist for the role of the TMT in Cyprus! Now we know where you've been coming from all this time!

The main role of the TMT was not protecting the T/Cs as you claim but in promoting the partition of Cyprus. You seem unaware that the TMT was a pro-taksim paramilitary organisation formed by Rauf Denktash and Turkish military officers to bring partition.

You also seem unaware that TMT attacks on Greek Cypriot properties went back to the 1950s and that the Turkish state had sent Turkish officers and Special forces veterans in the guise of bankers, teachers and businessmen in order to train Turkish Cypriots in guerilla attacks on Greek Cypriots.

It's also well known that in 1963 the TMT was responsible for the creation of Turkish Cypriot enclaves throughout the island, into which it forced the majority of Turkish Cypriots in pursuit of its separatist agenda.

I always knew there was something deeply unpleasant about how far you would go in defending the 1974 invasion as a necessary and justified act of collective punishment against the Greek Cypriot population. But I had no idea of the extent of your own emotional investment in Turkey's prior interventionist crimes in Cyprus.

I find this an extraordinary personal confession to make on a public forum. Not for its honesty but for its self-deception and delusion. In defending a treacherous and extremist organisation such as the TMT as "freedom fighters" you nail your colours to the fascist mast.

Historians suggest the TMT were many things but they were not "freedom fighters". The TMT killed not just Greek Cypriots but also many Turkish Cypriots in pursuit of their goal of partition. The struggle to unify the island is a struggle against everything the TMT stood for: Turkish fascism, racism and expansionism.

At least we know where you stand in the historical struggle for freedom in Cyprus. It explains a lot.

A big part of Cypriots was involved in TMT or EOKA or Organosi of Yiorkadjis. This doesn't mean that they were all murderers or that they even realized the damage that these organizations were doing to Cyprus.

Birkibrisli, brother, do not frustrate yourself over these people. They are deeply addicted to the orgasmic pleasures of extreme mutual hatred. They are lost souls who will never find their way. Without someone to hate they are nobodies. Hating gives them a reason to live. As simple as that.
