Retired Turkkish General supports TC's call for withdrawal.

Postby jahitty » Thu Feb 17, 2011 9:11 pm

A couple of days ago a retired Turkish General who served 4 years in Cyprus featured on KANAL D hosted by well known broadcaster Mehmet Ali Birand spoke in support of the TC protesters.

I have translated the main points.

He said Turkey must understand the concerns and demands of the TC's as since the 1974 'operation' we have given them a corrupt banking system, enforced the Turkish culture upon them whilst not attempting to understand their culture wich is far more democratic than ours.

In addition he said that before and immidiately after 74 Cypriots would comfortably leave thier windows and doors unlocked, the prisons were empty, the murder rate was zero! He salso added 'there was so much more common courtesy and respect between people'

He also finished by saying that since 74 we have given them uncertainty, they are witnessing massive changes amongst the population, they cant see what tommorow will bring.

Whatever anyone thinks of this, its a slight glimmer of hope that a former army man was honest about the consequences, hindsight is a wonderful thing, is it not!

Ammendment- The debate wasnt about withdrawal, he explained why Turkey should understand the anger of the TC's and the consequences of the 74 invasion.

I doubt this very much. Any general that speaks of such thing will have his balls chopped off by Erdogan himself.

Naw i disagree this generals words prove to me that erdogan is playing a game of wanting to prepare the turkish population of changes in cyprus....it began when that actor came on tv and said in 74 he executed unarmed greek cypriots......and nothing happened to this actor, now generals are saying that the tc population is correct in their uprising....

You are far away to undertand these things, it seems humanist. Do not allow yourself to get carried away by the nationalists of this forum. There are good people in all races and this Turkish military man is obviously one of them. You would be surprised to find out how many TC's feel like this too. I have been accused of befriending TC's but my friends all think like this and were brave enough in 2003 to take to the streets to oust Denktash, despite the strong hand of the military. They have shown their defiance only recently too, but just as we did in 2003, we hid under our skin again, insted of forging a common (Cypriot) stand with them.

Another member of the same panel did in fact say that Erdogans choice of language was wrong. He says that he should not have said those words.

The ex-Military man was honest in his statement. When mentioning the fact that Cypriots would and could leave their doors and windows open this was in fact an admission of the rise of crime in the north and that the responsiblity for this was the policies of Turkey in sending to Cyprus the wrong calibre of people, who understood nothing of Turkish Cypriot culture.

What your friends want is to keep for themselves what Turkey stole from us.

Basically the 2 thieves (Turkey and TCs) are having a disagreement as to who will rule the land they stole from us.

Unfortunately the TCs who want a just solution that will liberate Cyprus, will restore human rights and create a truly united and democratic state, are a tiny minority among the TC population.
