ELDERS DELEGATION WAS IN CYPRUS TO SUPPORT THE RELEASE OF THE DOCUMENTARY
A documentary film on missing persons in Cyprus, called ‘Cyprus: Digging in the Past in Search of the Future’, was promoted in the buffer zone with a special event last night. The Chair of the Elders Group- Archbishop Desmond Tutu and a member of the Group- Dr. Gro Brundtland, who made contributions to the film, attended the event.
The documentary, that was prepared in cooperation with the Committee on Missing Persons and the Cyprus Friendship
Programme, narrates the story of a TC and a GC who found a common experience after their fathers went missing.
Speaking at the event, Archbishop Desmond Tutu expressed the hope that the documentary will contribute to the solution process being maintained on the island, as it provides an example to inter-communal friendship and dialogue.
Yesterday, the Elders delegation also met with Derviş Eroğlu and the Demetris Christofias to discuss the current phase of the Cyprus negotiations process.
This had been the fourth visit by the Elders to the island.
