The representatives of the trade unions that were demonstrating yesterday in Northern Cyprus were not able to deliver their letter for Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan through the Turkish embassy. The embassy was guarded by hundreds of policemen in riot gear. Representatives of the embassy refused to accept the letter and told them that the only way they can reach the ambassador is by mail. Frustrated from the attitude of the Turkish leadership, the protesters sent the message that if Turkey wants a confrontation they will have it. In the meantime the Turkish government insists on having the protesters arrested and sent to court, it also threatened the Turkish Cypriot leadership that unless they take measures against them it would mean that they are protecting them.

Once more we remind the ones who are trying to usurp the political will of Turkish Cypriots that every people has the right to a free and independent life in the geographical region they live and the right to govern themselves. You should stop hiding behind the "Yes" voted by the Turkish Cypriots in the referendum in 2004.

“Erdogan has been using the 65 per cent support by the Turkish Cypriots in 2004 for the Annan plan as a way of presenting the Greek Cypriots as not wanting a solution. This is not true,” said Elcil. “Eroglu is trying to present separatist ideas [in the negotiations]. We don’t want this; we want a bizonal, bicommunal federation with single sovereignty and political equality”.

The union leader also called on the Greek Cypriot community to get ready to share the island with the Turkish Cypriots and reinstate the rights they had in the 1960 Republic

U should well knew how we stand against the Enosis dreams of you lots...we can stand against the Turkey as well....Many times, i said we would like to have our own rule .... That's why i am strongly supporting BBF solution Re......... Next step will be against the ''ROC'', EU and UN.......time will come for it as well. Time will come to show all of u that not the under estimate Turkish Cypriots.
