Erdogan furious at TCs

Turkish Cypriot Trade Unions announced that there will be a second major protest against the Prime Minister of Turkey tomorrow Monday 7th, in the wake of offensive statements about the January 28th rally in occupied Nicosia.

Furious about the protests Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, did not hesitate to reiterate that the Cypriot Government is behind them and urged the Turkish Cypriot leadership to deal with them. He added that Turkey will take measures against them since it cannot tolerate this attitude from Turkish Cypriots. Speaking on the phone with T/C leader Dervis Eroglu he expressed his anger about the situation, and using sharp words referred to the involved trade unions in the style of ‘who are they’ and said that they should be brought to court. Following their phone conversation Eroglu held a meeting this afternoon with the parliamentary party leaders to assess the situation.

cool...! good job cypriot government - taking a leaf out of britain's book - divide and rule..

PRESIDENT DERVİŞ EROĞLU MET WİTH POLITICAL PARTY LEADERS TO DISCUSS LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN CYPRUS

President Derviş Eroğlu came together with representatives of political parties with seats in the TRNC parliament yesterday. The latest developments following the mass protest rally held on the 28th of January against the government’s austerity measures were evaluated at the meeting which lasted for nearly three hours.

Efforts were also made to reach a nation-wide consensus at the meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Prime Minister İrsen Küçük said that he will be meeting with representatives of opposition parties this week to see if a consensus can be reached on overcoming economic problems being faced in the country.

The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party Ferdi Sabit Soyer said that the mass protest rally held on the 28th of January was the result of an expression of democracy which everyone needed to accept.

He said that several placards opened at the rally had shadowed the true message tried to be given out at the demonstration.
“It would be wrong to perceive the protest rally as a demonstration against Turkey” he added.

The Democrat Party leader Serdar Denktaş for his part said that the protest rally had achieved its goal and that he was pleased to see that the President has launched work to achieve a communal compromise and consensus on the issue.

Also speaking the leader of the Social Democratic Party Mehmet Çakıcı said that Turkish Prime Minister had been misinformed when he made his initial statements but that claims that the meeting was held in collaboration with Greek Cypriots was unacceptable.

The leader of the Freedom and Reform Party Turgay Avcı said that they distanced themselves from those who opened placards in protest of Turkey.

He expressed the view that all political parties must stay united against such forms of expression which would damage relations between Turkey and the TRNC.

A couple of interesting quotes here from our old friend YFred

"We buy plenty from Turkey and we are not allowed to export there. But besides that, the bases alone for security are worth the expenditure, never mind the natural resources that are about to be discovered which she will claim via the Turkish Cypriots.
If Turkey did not have positive gain in Cyprus she would not be here. She is not stupid. "

So much for the so called "embargo"

"Go on Mr Erdo, I dare you to pack your bags an leave us ungrateful bunch to our destiny.
As many TCs moved out of Cyprus under Turkish control as did under RoC. So if you are going to compare, there has not been any improvement by the Turks being there. In fact the deterioration has speeded up. I am not ungrateful, I am just not ready to be suppressed by some illiterate towel head. Nor is most of my friends in Cyprus.
Quite a few of my relatives were at that march and regularly take part in multi-cultural events across Cyprus with my friendly cousins in the south, not those fascist with dubious parentage."

I don't know B25 but I wish there was a way that this rift could be exploited by the ROC and allow Cypriots from both sides could re-unite and have their island back. It would not be an easy task now that half the population of the "trnc" is of mainland descent - obviously why Turkey dumped them there in the first place.

For that post alone our dearly missed Yfred should be invited back onto cf.

It is a pity the extremists on here caused him to be banned without really understanding him.

Any way, further to the point, If Eroglu is under the thumb of Erdogan (as alleged by some ) how come these demonstrations take place in the first place. As HalilBayrak Bey says, 'we are free' ; or is there something we do not know.

Agree with you Deniz, Fred should return. He seems a bit mixed up and confused these days but deep down he's always been a Cypriot first rather than a mainlander(IMHO)

Further news from Kibris Newspaper.

"Türkiye Başbakanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Cumhurbaşkanı Derviş Eroğlu ile telefonda görüşerek, Toplumsal Varoluş Mitingi’nde Türkiye aleyhine pankart açanların yargıya sevk edilmesini istedi.
Erdoğan, Eroğlu’ndan pankart açanlar için gereğinin yapılmasını istediğini söyledi. "

In a phone conversation Erdogan had with Eroglu, he asked the people who exhibited 'anti-Turkey' slogans at the above mentioned meetings, to be brought to court, and added that 'what is neccessary should e carried out.'. Can they execute in Cyprus?

Yfred has been one of the greatest Cypriots on the forum, his only problem was to loose faith in his 'southern cousins' who mocked him. Pity really. Unfortunately his plea's for understanding and acceptance of culpability fell on deaf ears or 'empty brainwashed' heads.

Unfortunately he fell foul of Admin so no chance of coming back............or is there?
