I thought Varellagi = little barrel? Stavroulla sounds full of...........Commandaria.

Interesting post Insan. Now we know that the Turkish handshake is in fact Italian Tocca = Toka, as is a belts buckle.

I'd like to read GR's take on the above book.

On page 28 there is reference that the 'Assizes' were translates from Frankish into 'Greek' so that the people of Cyprus could understand it. The word for 'Greek' was 'Romaika'. Was/is this term (Romeika) also used on the Greek mainland today or then. Can someone please answer. I am sure Demetra could. :lol:

Varelli = Barrel
Varellaki = Little barrel

It can be used as a metaphor for a short fat person like Deniz. :lol:
